Finder's fee for selling 911
My friend has his 911 serviced at shop "A". The owner of shop"A" asked my friend if he knew of any older 911 cars for sale. The friend referred me to the shop owner.
I had not advertized my 911, but considered selling it if the price was right. The shop owner looked at the 911 and stated he had a buyer for it. The next day I received a call from the interested buyer who promptly came over and test drove it. He said he would take it at my asking price based on a PPI at shop "A". I expect the PPI to go well. My question is: If the transaction is completed should I give a gratuity to shop owner "A"?

Might be a nice gesture. I don't think you're "obligated" but obligation isn't ever a good reason to give a gift.

Is the buyer giving the shop owner a "finders fee"?
Me thinks the shop owner will have some increased business due to the transaction between his customer and you. Do what you feel is right but IMHO you are not "obligated" to do anything. I'd wait to see the results of shop owners PPI first.

If you get a good price for your 911 with no hassles, I think the owner of the shop has done you a tremendous favor. He doesn't appear to be asking for anything, but I would think giving him $200-300 cash would be the right thing to do.

I'd say No. You were not actively selling your car, and they came looking for you. If there is a finders fee involved, it would be more typically paid by the buyer.
It might be different if you had been trying to sell with no success, and asked the shop for help finding a buyer, but it does not sound like that was the case here. DG |

So the thing we all want to know is what was enough money to make you sell?

Shop A is the only guy who will make any money if you sell the car.

Ergo, you already are giving him a finder's fee.

Realistically, you're the only one with the answer. A lot of people wouldn't even think of doing this; you did, which means you think he did you a solid...and you're a decent sort who thinks of others...(good on you, brother!)
Bill D brings up a good point. Money can be kind of tacky, so if you do decide to thank your pal, maybe beer, or JW Black, (or Blue) or tickets or a good meal could substitute for cash.

I am the third owner.
I have owned this Euro Spec 911 since Feb 1994. 68,000 miles Original paint and interior in great shape. Documents and receipts back to 1,000 miles. ![]() ![]() $25,000 I feel maybe it is priced too low...

I think the price is a good one for both parties. I also think your asking price should have included a commission for the shop.
