Blendmount - radar detector mount
How is it that I've never heard of this thing before?
BlendMount Radar Detector Mount Escort Beltronics Valentine One ![]() ![]() ![]() It seems like a pretty good idea. I've got 2 concerns. 1 is the extra weight bouncing around and hanging off of the rear view mirror mount going to cause a problem for the mirror or mount at some point? 2 Will it cause more or less vibration of the radar detector. I haven't noticed in this one, but in my last car, my detector would vibrate and bounce around a bit. Would the hard mount vs the rubber suction cups be better or worse?

States where rd's are very illegal?
A hard mount hanging down would be probably cause to search the vehicle. Be safe and legal out there. |

IIRC, it's only VA, OR and DC. In VA it's cheaper to get a RD ticket than the cheapest speeding ticket. And since so many sheeple comply, the cops there almost never use instant-on, thereby making RDs even more effective. I ran one for years there and survived a few traffic stop without it even being notice right below my rearview mirror.

I don't think they have one that would work for my car. I've got the auto-dimming mirrors on my car and the stem is odd looking. The blendmount brand has something specific for my style of rearview, but if I had a car with a more normal stem, I'd definitely being going with the other.

I have a similar one that's custom to each type of vehicle. IIRC it's called the GMount and I got it from bumperplugs.com Works very well; the installation (hardwiring) was a bit tricky due to tight quarters. I can't stand having the lighter-plug cords dangling so hardwired is a must for me.

Not legal to hang anything from the rear view mirror while driving here in California. I don't think I've ever heard of a ticket like that being given, though. But it's not legal to do that, or to mount anything to the windshield via suction cups (with the exception for a couple small areas in the 2 corners of the windshield--a law intended to allow use of aftermarket GPS systems).

I'll look at the one that you have. It's nice to have options.

I wouldn't use it; it creates a very large blind spot in a low car like a 911 where I'm looking up all the time.
I have mine on the dash in a little non-destructive bracket that I fabbed up from stuff laying around. Legal in OR.

OK, checked the parts, new plastic covers are $6.75 each side from Pelican, so $13.50. I can drill a couple of holes. Looks like we have a winner.

I have had that mount in my 911 for a couple of years. It works fine.

Compared to the mirror? or a need to check for low flying planes or helicopters... The pic I posted of my mount doesn't show depth well, but the face of the detector is just proud of the face of the mirror.. and the pic was taken from between the seats.. from above.. The way the mount articulates, and depending on the geometry of the windshield etc.. you could almost hide the detector behind the mirror... It really does not interfere with your view out of the car from the drivers seat...

No, I'm not talking about helicopters, I'm talking about traffic signals, or drivers faces or cars approaching intersections. I tried my detector under the mirror, and it didn't work for me. If it works for you, then by all means, knock yourself out. I had to take a different approach to make myself comfortable.

I've got Blend Mounts in both my 911 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, both cars have the V1 power hardwired to that point. BM is very secure and when mounted just below the mirror has no appreciable effect on my forward sighting. These are well crafted pieces and I really like them.

That said, in one of my other cars I've had a V1 mounted with the stock suction cups up to the right of the mirror and also hardwired. So that's another workable option.

My Touareg (and I suppose most of the others that have auto rain wipers) does not have a stalk to clamp anything onto. The mirror fits flush to the windshield.

Yeah, my car doesn't really have a stalk either, and I do have the auto-wipers and auto-dimming mirror. There are at least 2 different places that I can get a mount that will work for my car with the auto-dimming mirror and wipers.
