All my spoons are locked, even the readily accessible ones. A bad guy would be hard pressed removing this safe. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413075764.jpg |

The buttons on top are for the combination. Hit the buttons for your combo, turn the knob and the lid springs open. As you can see the spoon is in a holster attached to the lid. There is room in the bottom where I keep another loaded mag. Let me know if I can be of more help. FAS1 SAFE, LLC |
Simply Put.........
There is too much crime today to not be prepared to defend your life or your family! A gun in the right place at the right time can make a huge difference in whether you are a survivor or not.

I'm a bit disturbed by the number of y'all that stow your weapon with a clear chamber. Racking a slide is well within the gray area between gross and fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are non-existent in combat......unless you're a COD super soldier in your mom's basement. When excrement hits the twirly magic thing on the ceiling, you forget stuff....when you forget major stuff, like racking the slide, you get killed.....don't get killed, chamber a round.

Based on the last two posts, I am reconsidering the empty chamber approach. So loaded mag, one in the chamber, safety off, gun decocked (double action) makes sense. Then I don't have to slide the rack, nor do I have to futz with the safety. Just apply a bit more pressure on the trigger than I would with single action. Will also add more double action practice at the range.

That's exactly how I keep my USP. DA/SA with a decocker is a wonderful thing.

I've learned to sleep with a .45 (round chambered/safety off) in my left hand and a M629 in my right hand (for bear invasions) but it took decades of practice for me not to conk any bedmates during my sleep :D. Actually my handspoons are locked away (theft would really bother me...don't want 'em "on the street") and a lever action .357 is always handy. I've got a coyote that makes random appearances and that's when I switched over a few years ago. I'm a VERY light sleeper and wide awake if a frog farts...no way is someone going to pose a threat without me having time to react appropriately. Hope I never have to...

All we need is enough time to react and defend our family.
So we had wrought iron window and door guards installed. The doors have dead-bolts. The way I look at any home entry is just to give me time to grab the revolver from the nightstand, call 911. I am hoping any attempt to enter the home will make enough noise to wake me & give me time to defend. |

I live on a second floor, would like to do something like a floor safe, did you install that flange yourself or was it a factory option? |

I have plans to get a small/medium size .357 and load it with .38's for her. |

I have a neighbor who didn't believe me about the round in chamber. He went with me to the range, I had him lay his spoon on the bench rest with an empty chamber, I had mine hot in a holster. I called contact and two other friends started rapid fire for distraction. By the time he'd placed his first shot, I'd easily placed three well-timed shots into my target.
As has been mentioned, a good DAO revolver is pretty much as good as it gets for personal/home defense if you're not able to spend significant amounts of time training. Seriously, obscene amounts of time. |
While the .357 can shoot .38s and are cheaper to practice with...ALWAYS follow up with at least two full cylinder loads of .357. The shock to the web in the hand and the audible report are also quite different. Trigger pull on single and double action are also not quite the same.

I don't own guns (nothing against them; just don't own one). I do have a katana sitting in the corner next to my bed, within arms' reach. And a broadsword hanging on the wall going out of the room. I might be at a disadvantage going against an intruder, but at least I know none of my kids will be hit by an errant round fired by me.

Interesting, Joe Bob.
Curiosity has the better of me...if they don't go through a piece of sheetrock, how effective are they in terms of stopping power? Almost seems akin to salt rock in a shotgun. |

So I gotta ask: Cold Steel? ROWR! |
Oh they WILL go thru sheetrock. Just that the sheetrock will be rocked HARD. The Glaser will penetrate and the item hit will absorb all the energy and if it is living and breathing it will fall down. Like being hit with a baseball bat as opposed to a thrusting pointy weapon.
The debris just won't continue down the road. Lot's of ballistic reports on the web. Nicknamed as a the "Safety Round". |
I don't believe so. This particular one was a gift brought back to me from Japan by a close Army buddy. I had told him it's one of my life's dreams to go to Japan and have a sword made specifically for me. This was not exactly that (obviously), but was still one hell of a gesture. As such, it is my favorite blade, and I have many.

I do agree that a semi-auto is not good without lots of practice to go with it. I'm pro-shotgun for the above reasons. Of course, there's always the short-stroke argument to that plan. You can't win... unless you're willing to practice a lot. |
