OK guys...i'll be the first to admit it if I have wrong info. I sent my Uncle Bob an email to get more specifics. I am curious to see what he'll tell me. Hopefully he'll get back to me today or the beginning of next week.

JohnR...

Sarah may have meant the "Little America's Cup" which is a multi-hull race run every few years much like the big "America's Cup". I think the current winner is a boat called Cogito, built by Steve Clark of Newport, RI.

Good point...But unless the charter has been recently changed, Historically the "Little America's Cup" has always been run using C-class catamarans, a 25 ft. very high-tech developmental class of cat.

Maybe Sarah just accidentally called it a tri, when she ment a cat?

Anyway, no big deal....just sharing what I know.

Try this link to a little story of the C-Class cat "Cogito" Which did indeed win the Little AC cup back in '96

Hi Guys.....I have the correct info now.

I was wrong...it was not a "Trimaran" (my sister said she "thought" it was a Trimaran).

My uncle had my cousin call me. Here is the info:

It was the America's Cup race with Dennis Conner's 1988 Catamaran (Stars & Stripes) vs a New Zealand team. My cousin had a boat manufacturing company called RD Boatworks and they built the "boat" part of the catamaran. His speciality was catamarans, but now he is in a different area of manufacturing.

So...sorry for any confusion. (The misinformation was not my CA relatives fault...it was my families fault for not knowing what we were talking about)!

I grew up racing an Express 30' on the Magothy River in Maryland. Then graduated to crewing on J30's and J44's in Annapolis, Md. That got me into sailboarding also. That all ended 6 years ago when I moved to Colorado. I recently moved to the NC coast and am looking to get back into it. Crewing at first, but eventually I would like to buy a used J22 or J24 to race locally.

Thanks Sarah, I knew it was something like this...what the heck..right??

Hey Michaelw...when the time is right, look real good at the J22 !!!! I owned/raced my own J22 for 11 yrs and can give you a billion reasons why you should seriously consider a J22 over a J24 for every kind of sailing.

Out here on the left coast J24's are commonly known as "pain-boxes"

You can email me if you wish...

brgds
