Waterless wash products, yes I did a search

Anyone used this product?

My paint is about 2 months old now, I will have it clay barred and waxed next week......and thinking of using the waterless spray for spot cleaning between full bath days.

Anyone have any bad things to say?

Joe Bob,

I have used Griot's Garage's waterless wash and special microfiber towels and haven't noticed any problems. I don't use it at home, but I bring it along on road trips to clean up the car when I arrive or if something gets on it.

The concept behind waterless wash is tot use an emollient to keep the contaminants from scratching the paint. The problem is that the emollient doesn't get between the contaminant and the paint so as you are wiping the grit off your paint you putting micro scratches in it. No biggie deal for a daily driver but for show cars over time it will mean less gloss in the finish. Better to keep multiple coats of wax (properly applied) so that crud rinses right off.

Here is what I use as a reference
Waterless Wash - Part 1 - YouTube

Bit long, and the key is:

There are two kinds of dirt, the kind a Kalifornia Duster can remove and the kind you dont want to use a waterless wash to take off.

I use ONR (Optimum No Rinse) in two buckets, both with grit guards in the bottom. I also fill a spay bottle with the solution (dunk it in one of the buckets to fill it). I use two wash mitts. I start at the top of the car and work down. I keep one bucket as a "rinse" bucket and one as a "wash" bucket. So after I wash a section, the mitt goes into the "rinse" bucket, then into the "wash" bucket. I spray which ever section I'm washing first with the water bottle (filled with the ONR solution) then hit it with a wash mitt, which has been soaking in my "wash" bucket. I also will flip the wash mitt over ("clean" side) as I'm washing. Rather than dry as I go, I wash the entire car (I do the wheels last). Then while the car is still wet/damp, I spray it with Duragloss Aquawax 951, section at a time, which helps as a drying agent and prevents water spots, and use a waffle-weeve towel to dry. Keep in mind, this is done on a small 993 in a garage on a cool car.

I'm with sandman, ONR is fantastic stuff. If a car is heavily soiled I will spray it off in a touchless wash, but otherwise his advice is spot on. I've used it exclusively for about 6 mo on my truck, boat, and wife's Mazda, no sign of scratches or swirls.

You can also do a search over on F-chat. It seems like every few months there's a similar thread over there.

Since I have not found a local source for the ONR, Turtle Wax makes a rinse free car wash that works pretty good and is available in most Wally Worlds and auto part stores. I think ONR is better, but when I run out, the Turtle Wax stuff will suffice
