Isn't NY the greatest place on earth? Only in NY would they charge you extra if you only want one plate on your car. We have a Cars and Coffee out by the beach where a State Trooper stands at the entrance to issue tickets for missing front plates.
Even though it will cost me another $50 per year I will support it.

- A.B. 3671 would save money, conserve resources and bring New York in line with other comparable states that are moving to a single plate requirement.

- The funds collected under the bill would be used to help provide emergency services.

I like the idea but I absolutely refuse to pay to have only one plate. What a freakin scam for the state to charge, just one more example of the stupidity of politicians. How are they going to enforce this, just another distraction from doing the job of putting bad people in jail.

This state is crazy. What next? No stopping the stupidity now. I have been involved in emergency services for a number of years and can tell you we get no funds from the state and I don't see that changing, don't even get any tax breaks or benefit of collective procurement which would seem to me to make good sense. Our rather remote ambulance service is totally self funded, and ambulance cost $150K and we get one every 10 years, that's just for starters. ****in crazy!

Less always cost more

Seems like you have chosen the wrong emergency service. Why if you were in a police department, like some of our local ones, you could be provided with military equipment like armored personnel carriers and such!

We got some of that stuff as well, it was "gifted" no purchase required. So someone tell me where are these emergency funds going?

Why not just say to folks, If you don't want your front plate, don't mount it. No, the state has to make it a violation.

I never understood the dislike for front plates.

1. Blocks my oil cooler
2. It's ugly
3. Requires me to drill holes in my beautiful bumper
4. Raises my drag, lowering gas mileage
5. Is easier for the guy I'm tailgating to read my tag

There is more revenue from vehicle violations, plus no one calls 911 to report a missing plate, so LEO can write up plate tickets when they aren't busy with something else. It makes sense from a revenue generating perspective.

my thought is that once there are "legitimate" one plate users, the rest of the one platers may get lost in the shuffle.... how would the police know who paid the fifty bucks, without stopping you to find out?

The only reason for a front plate is to give revenue generators (cops) a nice reflective surface to hit with a laser gun. Anything I can do to make it harder for the government goon squad to steal my money (including driving more slowly) I'll do and support.
