For the record, I've been wearing heavy-duty RPGs since well before the word "hipster" came into common parlance.

Does that make me more hipster than the hipsters?

WPOZZZ 10-30-2014 03:16 PM

About once a year, I'll try to grow a beard and moustache. I shave if off when I see the abundance of white hair. ::sigh::

URY914 10-30-2014 04:16 PM

And they drink Pabst Blue Ribbon. Go figure.....

This... People as always following the crowd. BAAAAAH

It's harmless but Tattoos aren't and I expect one day soon tattoo's will be out of fashion.
I guess at some point the tattoo removal business will be a good place to invest your money.

Same here. My wife (together 31 years) has never seen me without a beard, except for a picture when I worked for a bank that disallowed beards. And it's never been a cheesy Smith Brothers type that now seems to be in favor amongst the hipster types.

I do too and love it. Did it long before it became trendy. Thankfully, PBR hasn't changed their recipe or tried a bunch of stupid, gimmicky marketing tactics like the other major American brands have.

porsche4life 10-31-2014 01:12 AM

I started rocking my beard well before the current hipster trend! Just easier and makes me look a little less young!

I've always liked it too (guilty pleasure).

It doesn't come in a Limited Edition Cranberry Maple Nut Crunch flavor?

bivenator 10-31-2014 07:38 AM

I was in a hipster setting the other nite and all the kids were drinking Lone Star. Ughh, I thought these people had taste. Drinking nasty beer to show you have good taste is quite ironic.

Art dept and set dec, yes. Gay, usually.
A side note: I have found the gay people to be quality people to work for, in comparison to most of the egotistical tyrants in the film business.
The scum does truly rise to the top, in film.

yazhound 10-31-2014 07:58 AM

Why care? What bugs me is guys who wear loafers, esp ones with tassels. WFT really? They are quite silly looking. AHH the whole country club, waspy, keep dressing like mommy taught you look... awful. And oh yeah, I wear a suit most days....

Tats aren't harmless? huh

Tats and beards been in fashion for centuries longer than not if you want to talk pre history.

Seems to me intolerence rears it head in this thread. No? Snarkiness and churlishness.

PBR. really? my brand of snarky. Why drink near beer. Unless you don't like the taste of beer. So much good stuff out there.....

Untrue. This is easily explained. Now that no one knows how to build anything or fix anything and anyway most stuff can be thrown away and replaced with new stuff, dude's want to at least look capable of doing/ repairing and looking useful, like times of old. Hence the beard thing, as in: "My Great-Grandfather had a beard and built his own house so I have a beard in order to look like I could do the same etc."
I don't have a beard. But I find it puzzling why these guys all want to look, kinda, the same...

I grew a goatee in 1999 to celebrate the coming new millennium. My wife hated it. Soooooo, it went away a few months into 2000.

I love the Glove and Boots videos. Quite a few of them, and they're GREAT.

I work in IT - and am working on a Cloud solution for our company. But the term 'Cloud Computing' is so 15 seconds ago -- companies are now calling it "Software Defined Datacenter" and "Software Defined IT"... But under the covers, it is the same ambiguous, vague, difficult to define concept that Cloud computing is.

But the term "Software Defined Datacenter" sounds so edgy and forward thinking -- all the CIO salivate at the mere mention of that new buzz phrase.

"Software Defined Datacenter" is the IT equivalent of what a Hipster is -- it is vague, trendy, involves a lot of money, and nobody really knows what it is all about.

So -- may I offer an alternative to the term "Hipster." How about "Software Defined Society." With the Hipster's reliance on smartphones, and their inability to solve basic mechanical tasks like changing a lightbulb, I think the term fits quite nicely, don't you?

My wife and I went to Nashville a couple weekends ago to party and take in the live music scene. Every dude was bearded. I felt out of place being clean shaven.

Yeah, she got a beard. Under her arms. I'm not sure what a real hipster is, but around here they are slacker wannabes.

Just like the Hollywood actors? (the pretend part)

Another fad until the mainstream gets on board then the beards will go and they will find something new like shaved arm pits

Bill Douglas 11-02-2014 08:40 PM

Thanks for clarifying that guys - silly me. Just the other day I was thinking there sure are a LOT of gay guys around these days.
