Can someone explain the current hipster beard thing
 

I'm living in a part of town that's right next to Houston's hipster mecca. I see this look fairly often. Usually the guys are wearing clunky old fashioned glasses, otherwise stylishly dressed, and then this huge beard that makes it look like they're one of the duck dynasty guys.

I REALLY don't get it. I would think this look with be like a babe repellent, but I assume they've had the kool-aid too.

Anyone understand this or know where it came from?

maybe it's a way to cover up those regrettable neck tattoos.

if i could grow one, i would..hahah..just for fun. i live in the Bay Area, and i see your hipster mecca and raise you one hipster MOVEMENT..it is crazy over here.

i kinda think it's what pushing the SC pricing up over the top here. these guys make killer money in the dot.com thing, and want cool cars. half the time i drive my 911Sc..some dude in a trendy hat, beard..skinny jeans and expensive ass plaid shirt is trying to buy my car from me..

one day, one guy will offer me CRAZY money and i will hand the keys over..but not yet.

There is no explaining hipster trends.

What I don't understand is how any of these guys get women. What woman in the last 80 yrs. wants a man with a beard like that?

They're all trying do be different, yet they're all doing the same thing.

Ah that is the best part. See the men act like they don't care about women and that drives the women crazy with desire. Like wearing a wedding ring!

The majority of the art dept guys I work with who look like that are gay. They call themselves "Bears".

A surprising number. Which is irritating, since I can't grow any sort of beard worth a damn.

I never knew bears were gay.

I knew they liked pick-a-nick baskets. At least on cartoons.

The hipster in my condo building has a pretty nice looking wife, although she's kind of a hipsterette.

Lot's O hipsters in baseball at the mo. No lack of masculinity.

My dad had an awesome mustache growing up, and my uncle always had a big beard. Its pretty much been a way of life for me, and I have consistently had a beard since about 2007. I feel like that was before I heard the term hipster regularly. Ultimately my beard was grown out of laziness in not wanting to shave, and now I am growing it out because I like it a little longer. My wife loves it...go figure.

OK, but 1 You're an old guy and 2 You play a bass (it is bass, right, I think that's right). I think the bass gives you a free pass on several eccentricities.

Maybe, just maybe, we've found the source of the hipster beard virus ^. It's benign in the hands of Targa911S, but mutates and is capable of airborne transmission (unlike ebola) once a non-bass player has it.

i am an F-250 diesel driving, lifetime NRA member, republican who just spilt four cords of wood for the winter. and i still qualify as a damn hippie in this state.

I have had my beard since the late 1970s. I don't have any plans to shave. I am the opposite of a hipster.

I almost always have some form of facial hair going on. My wife and girls are used to me changing my look all the time.

Right now, my oldest says my current stache style makes me look a little like an 1800s baseball player.

Been a Hick, a Rocker, a Punk, a Mod, back to a Hick, to a Grunge, to a Kook and now, leaning back towards a Mod which is what Hipsters long to be.

But, man we were cool!
My dear wife (of 38 years) did not see me without a beard until we had been married for 16 months. She still likes the bearded (but trimmed, these days) look, although I find I tend to think of Santa when I look in the mirror. :p
