Years ago I adopted a cat from the Cat Protection Society. It was a mostly grown kitten, and the place assured me it had all of it's shots including Feline Leukemia. At around two years old she started developing infections that the vet had to cure with antibiotics. Eventually he decided to test her for Feline Leukemia, which came back positive. I decided never to adopt a cat from that agency ever again.

Mine don't dismember the prey like yours vash. I usually get squirrels and mice laid out like a presentation at the back door. Hopefully whatever belongs to the rest of that arm is not under your couch.

Mine does not present his victims. He leaves the bodies under a tree next to the deck. It's best not to go under the tree. Our kitty spent the first 8 or 9 months on the streets. He ate what he caught.

Mine brought me a whole squirrel once. I chopped the tail and nailed it to the garage wall.

A few days later, he brought another gift - just the hind quarters of a squirrel. Chop the tail again, hang it on the wall.

The next week, he brings me just the tail, and from then on, that was the only "gift" he'd bring back home.

When I was in high school auto shop, the teacher had a BIG cat that would catch rabbits and leave a big heap of entrails on the shop floor pretty regularly.

cats are happiest when allowed to hunt and kill-

our big tom is the one the rats tell stories to their young about to scare them "he has taken your brothers and will take you if you are not vigilant"

Vash, hopefully that happened on a rug and not the carpet. My wife would insist on that flooring being removed. Our entire home is wood/tile floors with some rugs. Much easier to deal with sort of events.

Sorry about that.

I've lost a couple to Feline Leukemia.

Not a pretty way for them to go.

Unfortunately they can be born with it and it takes a while to show up and I believe under that circumstance the shot is not effective.

I was really expecting to see "blook blook" .
My cat does the same thing. She likes to leave them at the front door, and I get to step in them on my way out every morning. Dis emboweled bunny rabbits, mice, birds. She is a stone cold killer

Sorry to hear about your cat with leukemia. We've lost two cats that way. Both were inoculated for it, too, but both were strays that we took and had tested negative before we kept them.

Our current cats are indoors-only and only get to kill the faux-mice. But they do it every chance they get.

We had a previous cat would bring home 1-2 rodents a day plus a couple larger birds (jays, small crows, robins) a week. He always left them in the same place on the porch every single time. We knew his end was near when he stopped bring home trophies.

We got a kitten a few months back. Woman at the pound flatly stated that he had been fixed. We thought it strange that it was done so young. But a look online said it was possible.
Both his balls have now dropped and he's humping the bazeeejus out of his stuffed toys.
He had a couple sisters. The people who adopted them are in for a surprise.

They are seeking your approval on the kill layout thing.
We had a cat that would do that. In the morning you would find 2-4 mice laid out on the patio, dress right dress.
My father always made a point to thank and reward the cat, within view of the display.
He said she was protecting us.

The other prevailing theory is cats see us as part of their family.

Mother cats will bring their kittens dead stuff to eat and as the kittens get older they start bringing injured stuff to teach the kittens how to catch and dispatch prey.

Basically they think we suck at hunting.

I've come to the conclusion that 'rescues' are simply in the business of selling used pets.

My wife brought home this ragdoll last week (I didn't even know there was such a thing). The 'back story' the rescue laid out suggested she would be friendly and work well in a multi-cat environment; in real life she's the biggest b!tch-cat I've ever seen. She goes so far as to run to the window and hiss and try to attach cats that she sees outside. She refuses to eat anything other than sliced turkey lunchmeat, and it has to be hand-fed - she won't eat it out of the bowl.

Poppycock. She is just not hungry. Don't feed her for a couple of days and she will eat whatever you feed her.
