The Rolling Stones

Saw the Stones last week. They were The Stones, the world's most fabulous, most loved ****house garage band. Fully awesome. Seeing and hearing the incomparable Lisa Fischer belt out 'Gimme Shelter' just a feet away was quite a rocknroll moment for me, anyway.

But the thing that struck me....how, after decades of being THE STONES, of excesses I suspect most of us only dream about, are they in better health, more vital and still fully rocking than my clean living parents of the same vintage who couldn't even manage the stresses of attending a Stones show?

It is weird isn't it, seeing The Stones?

Nothing else like it. After I saw 'em I liked 'em even more. And I've always liked 'em!

First Show 7/7/72 LA Forum, 3rd Row Loge....meaning about 30 feet from the stage...$7.15...I still got the ticket stub..

Seen nothing like it before or since...they had Mick Taylor in those days..

First 2 shows sold out like in minutes, the demand was so high they added an early show which I heard about on the Radio, making for 3 shows. It was a MAIL IN...and I sent Certified...and got LUCKY...

Second time was the MGM Grand Arena Dec 2006...$500 for 25th Row Loge...They were OK but for 5 big ones, once was enough to say you seen the elephant.

Old Mick Taylor was out with them last week. And playing what appeared to be an original 58 Burst with a bigsby.

What numbers did Taylor play on...

"Can't you hear me knocking" and................

They've been rich for 50 years, that's how.

BTW, "Can't you hear me knocking" is my ringtone. :D

Awesome.

BTW, Robin Williams used to joke about the inexplicable longevity and vitality of Keith Richards particularly in conjuncture with his extensive use of drugs. Robin used to say that in the end only Keith and five cockroaches will be left on the planet. :D

Love the Stones, I have no desire to see them live though. Can't explain it.

I believe he was the lead guitarist on Sway. I've tried to steal/copy his solo on this one - been trying for years now & my rendition still sounds $chit-arse.

Cheers

Yup, took my son to see them last year in Oakland. Great show, well worth going.

Yeah, the Stones. Still remember when Satisfaction was the hit in the 60's discos in Munich. That music went right through the bones, And they are still cranking after all that seemingly self-destructive first decade.

Funny!

Apparently scientists were able to analyze Keith Richard's liver sometime ago. Nowadays the black boxes found in jet planes are made of the same compound found in KR's liver!:D

On a more serious note I read somewhere that Mick Jager has a team of personal physicians that monitor him on an ongoing basis. He essentially has a full physical exam including blood work, MRI, etc done about every three months....very proactive I'd say!

sammyg2 11-03-2014 01:15 PM

Does Mick still have that amazing half an octave vocal range? ;)

The 'Stones in their prime...1972.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AJ1CRKiwdho" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I saw them 25 years later and they were still electrifying, even then. One of the best live bands ever...
