Wow, rough story, Brittany Maynard and brain cancer

Just read this

BBC News - A cancer patient's decision to die

Quote:
Brittany Maynard says 1 November is the day she will die.

The 29-year-old was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January, after suffering from debilitating headaches for more than a year. Following months of treatment, and a progressively worsening prognosis, Ms Maynard decided she had to change course.

"After months of research, my family and I reached a heartbreaking conclusion: there is no treatment that would save my life, and the recommended treatments would have destroyed the time I had left,"
I'm just not sure where I stand on this. I guess I would have to be in a situation of having to decide for myself or watching a close loved one go through something to know for sure.

I feel for Brittany and her family.

When the bad days outnumber the good ones, I'd want out.

I read this a couple of days ago on all the other outlets. I applaud her courage.

I read an article on this as well.

She and her recently married husband moved to Oregon so she could legally get the drugs to make her own call.

I admire her courage and feel for her loved ones. It's a shame she had to move from her home state

In my opinion it's all about the quality of life. She has made the decision that her quality of life is not what she wants it to be and I applaud her. Everyone has a different opinion based on personal beliefs, religous beliefs etc. and there is no right or wrong answer. Speaking just for myself if the only thing I can do is drool in a cup and can't function it's time for the blue juice. Watched both of my parents whither away to nothing with cancer I wish this had been an option.

My uncle died of Glioblastoma. Nasty way to go - I applaud her and her family's strength.

I think her goal is to be here for her husband's birthday and then check out. This hardly seems like suicide to me.

If anyone is in so much pain they choose death over living, then who is anyone to say they can't?

Her life, her terms...I applaud her

She seems like one of the good ones.

This might be a bit of depression talking, but I'd take her place. I don't have **** going for me at the moment.

A tragedy with Brittany. Hopefully other folks can be spared some pain.

I don't know you, but having read your posts & threads over the years (even the dating one), I think you have a lot going for you.

Besides, if you traded places with her, you'd have to have sex with her husband.

Glioblastoma is nasty. My ex GF's best friend went through this. She went through a clinical trial for a drug they hoped would extend life, it didn't. Cancer seems rampant around me the last few years. Maybe that is getting older...my sister, breast cancer, one of my best racing/cycling buddies now going through a rare lymphoma treatment and non doing well, 11 year old of another buddy just had a brain tumor removed and they are awaiting a 3rd biopsy. This on the heels of his wife going through breast cancer treatment, there are more.

I support this brave woman's decision and others who face this. Sometimes do no harm means letting go.

My only problem is picking the day that far in advance. Maybe she wakes up on the first and feels great.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

May her family find peace in knowing her suffering is over and she passed on her terms and not in suffering.

Hearing stories of how some cancer patients go out, its just sad that this isn't an option to more of them. It's not a comfortable way to end your days, I'd much rather take the path she did.

Brave lady. I feel for her and her family but very glad they didn't have to endure months of decline and suffering.

Glad we're finally starting to get our heads screwed on right as a society about this issue. Well a few states anyway.

Rarely the phrase Rest in Peace made more sense. What a tragedy.
