My Polar Bear

I've been at this thing for a few weeks now, it's shinny because I sprayed it with water before the pictures, it isn't close to being done. I am happy with it so far, I think it will be a few more weeks before it will be close to done.
It was 240 lbs block of marble at the start. It's still too fat, the belly too big, and the head isn't shaped well but you can see that.

Please tell me you use power tools--I couldn't imagine doing that with a hammer and chisel!

pneumatic chisels and die grinders, but today hand filing, I just wanted to smooth it out, when I get stumped, worry about what to do, I file and sand. No sanding yet but after filing for a few hours I can get back to cutting. Looking at the pictures helps me see what's wrong,

not much of size, mostly really small stuff, it chisels off, some may have been an inch or two. In the first picture you can see where I started chiseling off the top, the back,

I can't afford to ship that, the last thing I sold was about 45 lbs and I flew it to the new owner, it was safer.
I have something smaller in mind for the exchange, it won't be a marble Porsche,

Good god man, I can't even lift that.

Well I guess it narrows the field on who can steal it.

As for the smaller rocks, I vote for chess pieces.

Good luck. Do send more pics. I admire this type of work. Was never good with creating things with my hands (unless you count music).

An update, I have been working on this for I think six, maybe seven Saturdays, it's coming along. I am hoping to get it done this month so I can get it in a store for Christmas, getting late. Yes, I know, some work to be done, especially on the head/neck. The Penguin is a 2 lb wax candle.

I'm chicken, I won't cut that out until everything else is done, I don't like handling it, moving it around without something holding the head. It isn't like wood, no grain, it could snap off, probably not, but I will wait.
