San Antonio / IMSA / and Thunder in the Streets
Ran across a box of old pictures taken during the San Antonio Grand Prix, mainly in 1987. In 1987, 88, 89 and 1990 the IMSA road show came to the streets of San Antonio. To me this was the heyday of IMSA and we saw some great street racing. The 962's were still dominant in 1987 but by 1990 the Nissans were the GTPs to beat. The 962s, Nissan, Jaguar and Toyota GTPs and all the big-name drivers of that era were there:

Cool pics of a great era, love seeing them in action on the streets. Drivers had big ones, to be running those monsters between the walls.
Can't imagine a bunch of them firing up inside the paddock building, earmuffs anyone? Cheers Richard |

If I can find them I definitely will. AFter 25 years and 3 moves ??
I have/had closeups of nearly all the 962's and other GTP's and will post if I can find. To see the iconic Lowenbrau 962's driven by Holbert, Bell, A.J. Foyt and Chip Robinson was definitely a Porsche fanboys dream. In 1987 the Lowenbrau 962's finished 1st and 2nd and Al Holbert is listed as a driver for both cars. Unfortunately, Holbert was killed in a plane crash a few weeks after the 1988 race. As a footnote: When the 962's, Nissans, etc. drove by it was just a loud turbine whoosh sound from the turbos. Although they weren't all that competitive, the sound the Silk Cut 12 cyl. Jaguars made was incredible as they were NA. A true screaming symphony when they were going through the gears.

Great stuff! I love anything 962 or IMSA GTP related. The entire 1987 San Antonio Grand prix is on youtube:
