Webroot. I believe it's won the PC Magazine "shootout" the last couple of years.

I use it...love it. Use it on my tablet and phones too.

I downloaded Malware Bytes onto my computer yesterday.
It found 20 items on my system....and wiped them clean....all well & good.

My computer slowed to a crawl. Logging on to any website takes forever (in computer speak) if it gets there at all.

So, is this "normal"..anyone else have similar problems?

I'm about ready to nuke that software.

Therein lies the problem with AV/ Malware detection.

It needs to inspect everything before it allows anything through.

That takes time.

Then they also monitor system processes, log files that change / get modified.

It can be a lot of overhead and depending on the age / processing power of the computer can be downright crippling.

MSE and MWB have worked fine for me.

Slow down happens to my XP system once in while. What seems to help is running "CCleaner" occasionally to get rid of all stored junk in various record keeping places like temporary files and internet caches. And also, if I see, or hear high activity on my HDD's I eliminate suspicious activities through my "task manager". then, once in a while, I check what programs are installed via "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, and eliminate not needed ones ones. Usually that speeds up my computing substantially.

There is a serious bug in XP in regards to automatic updates as well. Kills the system for a while. Though it shouldn't be much an issue any longer.

Aren't there suspicions that Kaspersky is supposedly in cahoots with a bunch of virus / malware developers in order to keep their product relevant? I thought I read something about that a while ago... Any IT security folks here?
