on my windows machine I use windows defender and just run as a "user" not admin.

Light, and it doesn't talk to you all the time like McAfee does. That POS loves to tell you things.

throw away your pc and get a mac. then you won't worry (too much) about viruses. otherwise consider kaspersky.

McAfee is junk. As well as Norton.

Kaspersky. It's solid.

Uninstall and just install MSE. It's free and captures 95%, just like the rest. AV #1 captures this () 90%, AV #2 captures a slightly different 90%.... Always good to use something like Malwarebytes in conjunction. With the two together, you can keep it at 99%.

Well, I will be different, use Avira, If you do normal internet stuff and don't click crazy links then MSE is fine, but if you go to questionable places on the internet then use Avira, its free and catches most stuff just doesn't removal it all. Most crap on the net is malware and not virus. malwarebytes once a month to be sure.

Hehe, I'm a grey hat. I go to all sorts of places. I run MSE and MWB with much success. But then, I've been around the block a few times.

Same here. Once a month I update MWB, run a scan then make a full system backup.

it's too bad no one seems to make a quiet Antivirus- they all pop notices up, that's why I gave up on McAfee....spams you all day long about it's activities.

McAfee and Norton are resource hogs. AVG can be as well.

Viper is good but if you want free MSE works OK. No matter what you use, get MWB and run it on a regular schedule.

I can't remember the last time I saw any sort of popup with Microsoft Security Essentials.

+1. I took Art Z's (whatever happened to him) recommendation when this topic came up a couple years. Smooth sailing thus far...

I use ESet. A lot of IT organizations use it; it is light on system resources and does a great job with detection.

I am a geezer, and don't generally go to questionable places on the internet however, for the record MSE is Microsoft Security Essentials.
And is MWB, malwarebytes?
Thanks in advance.

I will give this a hearty second. Most windows based security sotfware is a scam at best and outright malicious at worst.

Same here. Avira. It's free and does not slow me down, and only occasional pop-ups.
