Didn't think I should park my car at the job site today.

Your photos reminded me of the floating cars in Japan just after the Tsunami.

Yeah, As you can see it was a BIG high tide, carried by high winds. Makes me a bit
nervous working so near it. That's a fairly large ship (600') and it looks like it could
roll right over the curb. Not much separating me from the deep blue sea.

Just the salt spray alone would be enough to scare my car away!

I know what you mean. You know how some people have an irrational fear of clowns? I have a fear of ships. I don't know why, but it gives me the creeps to be near one. I'm ready to sign up for a Virgin Galactic space tour, but no amount of money would get me near a cruise ship.

Really? .... I don't know why but I can understand that.

Weird I know but if I'm standing next to one I can't help but feel it's about to tip over.
And I felt uncomfortable watching the shipyard fight scene in the first Sherlock Holmes Movie. (Robert Downey, Jr.)

So you're not alone.

Me too, guys!!

I am fascinated by ships but at the same time they freak me out a bit. I don't know why, either.

As weird as that is I would absolutely dig taking a journey on the Great Lakes aboard a freighter.

After hearing Gordon Lightfoots "Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" I would never be able to sail on the big Lake they call Gitchi Gumee, especially when the skies of November turn gloomy

For me, it would be more about facing a fear.

Right now, my son is drawing sketches of the Fitz. We even went online to find the current location of the Arthur Anderson, the ship that was following the Fitz that night.

She is almost to the top of Lake Michigan, probably in a snowstorm.

Just saw a video on the Korean war.
The strategic landing at Inchon was based on tides with a 30ft difference.
Only possible twice a year.
It had to be two phases, on the same day, else all ships would get stuck in mud.

30 ft is a very high tide, we only have about 8 ft where I live. But I think in the Bay of Fundy, NS they can go as high as 53 ft. That's high, and there is quite a trick in mooring your vessel so it doesn't hang up at extreme low, I think.

Yes indeed, in the upper part of the Bay of Fundy you can find the highest tides in the world (don't try this in Florida, kids).
Because of a resonance between the ocean's tides and the length of the bay 400 billion tons of water flow in and out of the Bay each day.
That'll float your boat (or leave it sitting on the bottom.)

Drop in to the tidal power plant in Annapolis Royal sometime between mid-May and mid-October and we'll talk.

Best
Les
