There was a time when you could have bought the whole company for $5 million....

I'd never heard of this car before.
I like the shape of the of the body a lot, it's a real looker.
5 million dollars sounds ridiculous, but the older I get the less I know....

I remember the car. The photos made the rounds of all the US mags back in the day. Motor Trend, Pop Mech, etc...

I always loved that car. Shame it never came to market. Real pretty.

The guys been sniffing to much lacquer thinner.

If it's the car in the photo on the driveway that's the Chicken Coop car.

Good luck finding parts if the thing needs any.

Probably why it's still not fully restored.

If the car had not been stripped, it would have been worth a bit more than in bare metal.

As a piece of history I think someone would have to be a true champion of the marque to shell out 7 figures for the car as it sits.

Since the owner has already stripped away the patina there isn't much choice but to complete it to 'as new' condition.

Too bad.

^ That.

And considering car #4 in number 2 condition looks to have fetched $750 k ish the guy is unrealistic in his expectations.

Neat link-

For the moment and disregarding the listing and price-
If legit, surely is a most interesting and cool styled car.

Could be an uncompleted recreation and like the proto's, shares AMX components. Documents, chassis I.D, can all be faked. There's quite a few so called rarities of other makes that are fakes. Some are so rare or one-off that even some experts won't dispute and are fooled. They get circulated with rumors adding to its history and the next buyer is drooling. Some eventually end up in a credible collection or museum, sold off once again and the story continues.

So $5,000,000 buys you a basket case car with questionable provenance (one car was recently sold as this chassis number ?) and little, to no car collector desirability. I don't think so.

Interior

This is not a comfy looking cockpit. Upright seats with no apparent adjustment. Upright steering wheel.

It may or may not be legit, but as mentioned, fakes are out there and re-creating 'prototypes' can fool the best of experts.

I remember seeing a 70 or so Shelby 'stang' convert proto, 'later completed' and supposedly Carroll designed for his wife. I forget the details but it might have had grafted tail lamps from the same era Thunderbird. Asking price was $1mil. For all we know, a continuation or funky VIN can be easily be stamped in. On the flip side, many concept and proto's never had or needed an i.d..

Look at the incredible work achieved in the UK by Crosthwaite & Gardiner or Roach Mfg..

He might as well ask 5 Billion Dollars !

Someone in Indy needs to go look at that car with a camera on, and post the video and conversation with the Seller on youtube.

You would get a 5 Million Dollar Story !

As I recall, AMC made just a few of these and they looked great. I loved it back in the day. Very much like the Pantera.
