Tree service time......

Obviously, if you are a climber, the limb/chunk would be the appropriate means to do this. On the other hand, I took down a much bigger pine tree (at least double the diameter) in a similar tight spot a couple of weeks ago. Just cut a big, deep notch on the side where I wanted it to fall and then made a slightly higher cut to the notch from the other side. It fell exactly where I wanted it to. Didn't need a rope or jeep. It wasn't rocket science.

The RV is dead; it has a blown motor. One of the other neighbors gave it to him.

I just looked out there a few minutes ago and it seems like he's called it quits for the day.

Like watching a train wreck...

Rick V 12-09-2014 05:19 PM

Called it quits? Oh I am sure the other neighbor is gonna sleep great tonight

BGCarrera32 12-09-2014 05:20 PM

So its just sittin' there with the rope hooked up??? Wow.

What he's probably going to get:

If he's lucky he'll get this:

If it goes down overnight, we're all going to be so disappointed.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-09-2014 06:01 PM

Can't wait to hear how this ends...

LakeCleElum 12-09-2014 06:16 PM

WB - How do you expect me to sleep 2nite not knowing how it's gonna turn out????

cockerpunk 12-09-2014 06:23 PM

subscribing for updates. reminds me of the "shed of doom" thread that made it around the intertubes a while back.

cockerpunk 12-09-2014 06:23 PM

shed of doom links for our less internet veteran crowd here: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1CAACAG_enUS594US594&ion=1&espv=2&ie=U TF-8#q=shed%20of%20doom

EDIT: it appears the shed of doom is still standing .... crazy ....

Why did he put the notch in the tree up so high? If anything, that just minimized any form of leverage he had with the ropes.

Is the notch more than half-way through the trunk?

Did you or he hear any 'snap-snap' as he was cutting the notch?

Even if he is able to make the cut above the notch in order to get the tree to fall the right way, the bottom part of the trunk is going to vibrate him off the ladder so fast, he won't know what hit him!

There's a ton of stored up energy in that situation - like a taunt garage spring, only 50x worse!

He needs to realize he is in over his head and it's time to call a tree service.

Can you setup a webcam for us? :D

widebody911 12-09-2014 06:38 PM

Just checked again - looks like he called it a night. The jeep and rope are still in place!

porsche4life 12-09-2014 06:41 PM

Get a camera on a DVR stat! You can be Internet famous!

70SATMan 12-09-2014 06:42 PM

Perfect timing, storm coming in on Thursday with high winds. That should sort it out.

Shaun @ Tru6 12-09-2014 06:44 PM

Is one of your cats grumpy? Put him in the tree, you'll have a 991 GT3 in a week.

Nostril Cheese 12-09-2014 06:58 PM

Call the police or fire department before this gets really ugly. Don't let this guy hurt someone.

HardDrive 12-09-2014 07:07 PM

Industrial. Strength. Stupid.

Fire department should be called. This is BS. This guy is endangering human lives. Sorry buddy. Call the city and have them send a crew out making double time to deal with it.

Other than fintstone, nobody offered any constructive advice. Mt favorite is "run forest run" cause I never heard that before.
