Definitely not this guy.

Yep, , he's a maroon, barely smarter than a magenta.

Relatively few people appreciate how strong or heavy trees are. I watched some neighbors try to tear a mature white oak out of their front yard with a rented pick up several years ago...no sawing. That tree is still there today. I'm sure the pick up is long gone and most of those neighbors have gone to jail.

Sounds like a nice nieghborhood you got there.

Fail!

On the other hand, I took down a much bigger pine tree (at least double the diameter) in a similar tight spot a couple of weeks ago. Just cut a big, deep notch on the side where I wanted it to fall and then made a slightly higher cut to the notch from the other side. It fell exactly where I wanted it to. Didn't need a rope or jeep. It wasn't rocket science.

^^^^ This.....only a couple of times in my life have I/we (dad) needed to call a climber or bring in a bucket (once), and we don't climb. No telling how many trees we've dropped that make that one look easy. Guy probably borrowed a chainsaw and rope, but forgot to borrow "a clue" also...idiot. A little common sense (and experience) goes a long way imo....

Wow, he picked perhaps the worst day of the year to manifest his brain damage in such a fashion. I think I am close enough I will hear the sirens if it actually falls on someone.

As it is right now I doubt a regular tree doctor would even touch it.

This is not going to be a simple (cheap) fix. That tree needs to be taken down branch by branch... A "Cherry Picker" and days on site at a minimum. :(

I've been wondering why he notched the tree so high (yeah- I know- it was as high as his ladder went!), but from this pic- maybe he was trying to decrease the arc of it's fall so it would miss HIS house and HIS telephone line?!? Maybe? Bueller?

Never mind physics/bad leverage/ or the neighbor's house.

Questions I will ponder as I drive to work:
Will the tree still be standing this a.m.?
Is there even a way to get a bucket truck up to the tree now with the ropes and RV and jeep cherokee all in place?
Will the weather turn for the worse?
Will the neighbor smarten up and call his insurance/fire dept/superman/ own tree service?
Will the guy doing this get a 12 pack, throw another line up there and get a friend with another truck to help?

Gosh Golly, so suspenseful. :D

Exactly how it was done with an 80+' pine tree between our house and a neighbor's. Each chunk of tree that hit the ground could be felt for 100' away. It took most of a day but it was safe for the climbers and houses.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the thread...

Looks like an episode from the tv-series Soap. I am just waiting for the sarcastic butler Benson to walk into the pic and comment on the current state of affairs.

Scuba Steve 12-10-2014 03:10 AM

Ok made it through the thread. I expected to read that the tree let go and the Jeep was somehow up in the air like tennis shoes on a telephone wire.

Stay tuned Steve....thread ain't over yet :D

....like driving by an accident scene, can't resist...

If I was the neighbor I'd probably call the police. This isn't going to be storybook ending.:D

ckelly78z 12-10-2014 03:39 AM

I figured that the tree would add insult to injury by pulling the rear axle of the Jeep out from under it and landing it on the neighbor's pool.

Well?

C'mon... Don't make me have to keep checking this every five minutes all day... I'm going to be like a kid on Christmas morning waiting with anticipation!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing and cussing because they are three hours behind,
WAKE UP AND UPDATE US!!

widgeon13 12-10-2014 04:08 AM

Can you imagine the neighbor trying to get some sleep!

fastfredracing 12-10-2014 04:13 AM

You guys are funny, first thing I did this morning was check this thread. Po of my old dumptruck did something similar, roped off to the dump truck, and when the tree fell, it dragged the truck back into some other trees, bending the hell out of the bed and tailgate. Truck did not really even slow down the trees fall .
That is an ugly situation going there. Need a good climber.

vonsmog 12-10-2014 04:30 AM

This is how I get my trees down when needed!

When I left for the office @ 4:30am the tree was still there. I passed on some tidbits of advice to the lady on the other side. She took him to HD yesterday to get a new cable, and his plan is to climb up there and cut off some of the limbs.
