Whatever you decide, it had better wind up on youtube...

You could invent what will be known as a tree party.
Everyone comes around with beers offering suggestions. Dogs running around on the loose barking. Sterio blaring, BBQ with steaks. |

Unfortunately my stupid neighbor got wind of what we were doing and tried it himself. He burned half his woods down. He didn't even know it was on fire until the the FD showed up. How anyone can be idiot enough to set a pile of brush on fire and then go inside to watch TV the rest of the afternoon is beyond my comprehension. |

As this thread demonstrates, there are alot of stupid people in this world, with most of them being drunk, which means when they get hit by a falling tree or run a stop sign, they aren't the ones who get hurt because they are so relaxed.
|
I've checked this thread about two dozen times already today... C'mon gravity, do your stuff already!

...must resist looking.....CAN'T :p |
Yea, this is like the cliffhanger scene on the Saturday matinee serial movies.
We all want to see how it ends. |
ugh - now I'M hooked on this too....

One word... explosives!

Schadenfreude(German= literally means harm-joy according to Google). If I was his neighbour I would be shouting at him to call the experts. What was he thinking? House insurance likely would not cover stupidity.....

It is sort of on my way home, but it is going to be pouring rain with high winds, I am going straight to the house tonight. Things will change between now and tomorrow morning

And maybe I'll get something "useful" from this thread other than tingling anticipation waiting for the next episode of "As The Tree Topples" ;) I'm also taking wagers....I'm betting on gravity and giving 10 to 1 odds....any takers? |
Never really fixed anything. I got a better router, and it happens less often now, but it still happens much more regularly than I would like.
|
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
You canna change the laws of physics! |
Thom,
Lawnchairs and beers. I'm so tempted to drive up and watch this calamity. |
I remember reading that trees weigh about 550 kg per meter cubed or about 1200 lbs. per sq yard and the weight of the branches equals the trunk weight. So every 7'-9' there is a ton of weight. Gee I wonder why his jeep had no effect on the tree. :)
|
Maybe the lumberjack and homeowner should call their insurance companies and tell them about the situation. I'd think it would be in the best interest of all to work out a solution before it goes from WTF to OMG.

Yowza! Hope our own Widebody didn't decide to help! Could be in jail by now.
We need details! |
|
I've got this really big dead cedar cluster (4 trees, 18 inch diameter trunks) that is right next to the house, and between the electrical service entrance wire and that nice Macintosh apple tree that I planted. I figure to hook my Massey-Ferguson onto it and neatly pull it down right between the wire and the apple tree. I have to cut it first??

no need for all that work.......... 1/2 gallon of gasoline and a match ought to do the trick. |
I hope whatever camera he uses to record this is waterproof.

Nothing a few quarter sticks of dynamite won't fix...

Updates, updates! :D
My coworkers got hooked on this too! |
This thread is awesome. That is all.

Update!
Ok, the situation was resolved, with no loss of life or property damage. Not as exciting, but a better outcome for everyone.
He called his brother, who spent several years <ahem> "working for CalFire" on a prison fire crew, so he actually has the requisite chainsaw skills. He showed up around 10pm last night and cut off most of the upper limbs with a hand saw until about midnight. This morning they spent some time clearing out stuff in the neighbor's yard - just in case - and then dropped the tree this afternoon. They removed part of the fence for better access, and then chained the jeep and the other brother's range rover together to get more pulling traction. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418254748.jpg |
Now, the other interesting tidbit I found out: they had their power cut off a few days ago because he didn't pay the bill. Normally that's a "well, tough luck" but his 90+ YO mother lives with him (technically, he lives with her and has as long as I've known him). So that's gotta really suck for her. I don't know if there's an authority to which this situation should be reported.
|
I see that they took out the mast & their electrical service as well.

Yes, this could be good. Please, no vertical video though. |
Well, I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
And I'm wasted and I can't find my way home |
Boo for a responsible ending!
|
Developing situation - I doubt this will end well...
Double boo!
This had such awesomeness potential too. Oh well. With neighbors like these, the next round of entertainment can't be too far in the future. Keep us posted when the next shenanigans start! |
