Discount Tire Direct...Singing Their Praises!!!

These people run an all around FANTASTIC business!! From customer service answering questions with direct information, same-day fulfillment...oh, and then there's the price.

The details: The DD, 540i/6, was in dire need of new rubber and wheels. Cutting the RR tire at work last week was the catalyst for the purchase. When I bought the car I noticed a slight rim bend in the RF...upon further inspection at a wheel repair shop. The RF had 7 bends and deemed not repairable...the RR had 6 bends and had already been welded on the inside...also not repairable. Also, the tires were mismatched front to back with the rears being 90% gone.

After a little research I found that Discount Tire offered Voxx made, M-Parallel knock offs (Think Euromeister for Fuchs). I've always loved the looks of the M-Pars so it was a no brainer.

I put a package together wth BFG Sport Comp-2s and find out that they will mount and balance for FREE when a set is purchased! WAIT, there's more. I got a $50 rebate off the top and they were at the house in 3 days...also, FREE.

So I was able to score a full set of wheels and tires, mounted/balanced, delivered and not having to sacrifice my time to get them taken care of...for $1158. That can't be beat.

I bolted them on last night and it transformed the car...couldn't be happier

An aside: The BFG rears are 275 series...and are physically 1" wider than the Falken 275s that were on the car.

I ordered a set of snow tires mounted from them. The tires happened to be directional. They sent me 3 lefts and 1 right.

Their solution was for me to go to a local shop and have them remount and credit me the cost to do so.

They sent me to one of their recommended installers who then informed me they couldn't perform the task because theie equipment couldn't service the low profile of the tire.

The next solution was to take up more of my time and send me to another shop that was further away.

After an e-mail to the VP they did ship me a correctly mounted wheel/tire and took the incorrect one in return.

Ultimately they fixed the issue but not without aggrivation.

If you sell tires you should know how to mount them and have checks in place to insure accuracy.

I've not dealt with Discount Direct but I gotta say your car looks great with the new wheels!!

Our 5 Series Touring was the same color but I had the factory BBS wheels on it.

How do they compare with the tire rack? I get a wholesale discount with the tire rack, but shipping almost always kills the deal for me.
My local tire vendor treats me like gold, and unless I need track tires, or something unique, they always beat the online vendors I have shopped .
Before shipping went through the roof , I used to have the ups guy dropping tires from the tire rack, nearly daily .

Haven't tried DTD, but the brick and mortar Discount Tire has always treated me and the 911 well.

Priced them out today. EXACT same price for a set of winters for my Subaru.

Tirerack $112. ea +52 shipping = $500

DTD: $125 ea + Free shipping = $500

Discount Tire used to be my place- until they changed to high pressure techniques-they do this long-winded thing when you show up where they act all concerned you are on the bald, wrong, tires and get all extreme on you, and waste your time.

Being told "I needed new tires" with 6/32" showing and I live in the desert.

Strike one.

having them tell me my tires were wrong for my pickup truck (they SOLD me the wheels and tires) and did this big long time consuming dance where they "wanted to research options for my safety" and all I wanted was a tire pressure check.

The end solution they proposed: new tires the same size on the rear- I have a STAGGERED setup. I told 'em they sold me the tires - and how STUPID my truck would look with a 265 /50 /17 up front (currently a 235 /55/ 17). For suggesting such a stupid, mindless solution and wasting 1/2 hour of my time when all I wanted was a pressure check:

Strike 2

Strike three was when I went in for a flat repair and they refused to fix my flat even tho there was tread and it was in the middle- wanted to sell me new tires for "Safety"

Strike 3

Now- I go to the tire rack- I wrote an email to Discount corporate telling them that their new sales policy has turned a once-nice place to shop into a slimy used car lot, and I wasn't going back. I have at least spent $7-8K there over the last 6 years or so...

Interesting, guess it's preference in your case.

Price out some Nitto's or Falken's from TireRack

Randy, that blows.

The more I hear, guess I'm the minority on DTD experiences.

Not sure why you'd want to, as there are better tires out there.

Either way. Tirerack had 93 tires for my application, DTD had half that number.

I have also found Tire Rack to have broader choices, especially given that I tend to pick oddball tire sizes.

Gotta give my Discount Tire rant from yesterday:

I took the rear wheels off my Cayman and took them to Discount Tire to have new P-Zero's installed yesterday. I had my local Discount order the tires last week and even that was a problem since they had no idea what Porsche "NO" tires were. One salesman quickly quipped that they're probably discontinued. Then they wanted to sell me TPMS rebuild kits for a car that's barely a year old. I go back to get the wheels and new tires only to find one tire on backwards and the other tire had about 8" of balance weights on one side.

So much for trying to save spending extra at the Porsche dealership. Next time, I'll just pay the dealer.

Just find a decent local tire shop. You know you need one. I used to know the manager of the store in Webster, then later my wife's friend's brother got a job with their store near my place in Conroe. Couple guys had ingrown toenails, which I fixed in the back room gratis while they were mounting tires for me. They pretty much hooked me up after that.

As previously mentioned, prices are almost always the same between DTD and TR. TR has a much larger selection of both wheels and tires. I've ordered only one set from DTD, oddly enough a set of Voxx wheels for a BMW years ago. It was a positive experience. On the other hand I've ordered a LOT from TR over the years and always been very happy.

Recently had the same experience as Randy with the local Discount Tire refusing to fix my daughter-in-laws tire (with a nail in the center of the tread). When I took the car in, they had no problem repairing it. I complained to local district manager about the shoddy treatment of my D-I-L and he gave her two new tires and a profuse apology about the poor treatment.

I think the profit/commission/bonus fever of the staff is driving them to use scare tactics to sell more tires. Very sorry to see a good vendor go bad.
