Wife was in a car accident

Cliff Notes version... She was driving alone (going to pick up the kids from my mom) and another vehicle blew a stop sign and hit her, then pushed her into a power pole. She walked away, but last night started vomiting. My mom took her to the ER (still waiting to hear anything) while I stayed home with the kids. Already planning to talk to legal counsel, it appears that the driver was insured and we also carry noninsured/underinsured and PIP. Anything else I should know? Car was a 2007 Mazda 3. Looks to me like it'll be totaled. Think it'll buff out?

Hope the wife is ok - maybe a concussion?

If the car was much newer I would not be so quick with judgement but a '07 - yeah that looks like the repair will be close to market value. Time to shop for another car.

I hate to say it but consider one of those personal injury lawyers you see on TV. My wife and I were in this same situation and it was a f*cking fiasco. We did everything right, the way you think you're supposed to, and the jury still f**ked us. Just hire one of those ambulance-chaser guys on TV and have him, or her, go get a decent settlement out of the other driver's insurance company and move on.

As you mentioned, talk to a lawyer and quickly! The other person's insurance will be blaming her for being there......if she wasn't there would be no accident. I hope the ER visit turns out to find something? Vomiting is one of the many signs of a concussion!

Not that there is an good time to get in an accident but it sucks for it to happen this time of year.
Hope your wife is OK.

I don't like the vomiting a few hours later at all. Smart move going to the hospital. Hopefully her head CT was unremarkable.

2 years ago, a guy ran a stop sign and hit me in the RF wheel (we were both doing 60 MPH). My seatbelt didn't catch me going right and the center console of my 83 Porsche 944 shattered my pelvis , 4 ribs, sternum, foot, and lacerated my liver. He was grossly under-insured to pay for the $100,000+ in medical bills, plus the matching pain and suffering, for me learning to walk again, and being off work for 5 months. The only reason we came out of this in good shape is because of OUR very good auto insurance that paid an additional $250,000 on top of his measly contributions. But that had to be split 3 ways between the Lawyer, the Hospital, and us.

I wish you luck and wisdom on your claim, and hope that no other medical issues surface for your wife.

As long as the wife will buff out don't worry about the car. Since the other driver was uninsured have your insurance person go after them and if they start the run around then lawyer up. You pay for uninsured drivers so use that.
I hope all turns out well

They gave her a full battery at the hospital. Concussion and whiplash, but thankfully nothing else turned up. My mom is taking her to pick up her anti-nausea meds, muscle relaxers and pain pills. we'll talk to a lawyer today or tomorrow.

She ran the billing dept and was the office manager for a chiro clinic for 15 years before she quit working this summer. She knows the good PI attorneys, so I'm sure we will be in good shape on that end. She insisted years ago on carrying un-insured/under-insured motorist and PIP. She's a smart one... Don't know why she settled on me.

Absolutely not worried about the car. It's a thing and things have value. My wife is priceless.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm always amazed how this little community rallies around each other.

Thankfully my mom is and RN and lives around the corner now. She's been a huge help.

It's good everything seemed to line up for you. It sucks when you have to go through added effort and hassle trying to solve every little detail. Hope there are no long term discomforts your wife and resolution of the whole thing goes well for you.

At least you now have a planned direction and a plan for the wife. I always find the uncertainty the worst, and having to sit on the sidelines while a family member is sick makes me crazy with pent up energy.

I hear 'ya. I'm a professional problem solver, so it's good for me to have something to "take care of" and its good for her to have me take care of the details so she should be able to rest up.
