fedex rant

happy holidays to all you pelican, and merry Christmas and happy new year to those that require such ;)

on fedex:mad: ive been using them exclusively for shipping for a number of years now due to proximity. my shipping has tapered off greatly over the last year or so, but being an autophile I still ship once a month or so. the local store has recently been very (un)specific of the type of shipping box, essentially making it so you have to buy a box to put your packaged box into. this has happened twice over the last few months and I went ahead and broke down paying for a box that said "fedex" on it..... the most recent time I was again somewhat displease and the service rep tells me the new manager wants them to be more specific on types of shipping boxes they will accept. corrugated box, no other logo on the box, odd shape... it's something different every time.

so I go in yesterday to ship a small package of an oil sample to blackstone in IN. got a plain white box, packed it tight so it would not shake about any, taped it up well with packing tape. I enter the store and am welcomed by my service provider stating id like to ship my 4x4x4 inch box via ground shipping. he says that they will not ship my box that had arrived via fedex to my house a week earlier!!!! it was from EBS in reno and they DO NOT skimp on shipping so it was a quality box.

I lost it, holiday spirit ya know:D. I told dude, who had the "manager" tag proudly displayed on his shirt that I was done with them. all freaking done with them! I was onto their game in that this was all about the bottom line selling more boxes and packaging supplies. he appeared to be prepared for my displeasure because he quickly thanked and excused me from his service before my rant was even over....

anyone else seeing this from fedex? I got back in the truck drove a few extra blocks to UPS, opened an account there and they were more than pleased with my packaging n off it went. is this country wide, or is this my manager buddy's way of moving up the corporate ladder by selling tons of boxes :mad::mad:

thanks for listening

That makes no sense. Did he give you a reason?

I ship maybe 2-3 FedEx packages a day from my prototype lab, and have never had any problems with the packaging I use. I was talking to the driver that I have become friends with over the last year, and he said he just found out that FedEx will be operating a FULL CREW on Dec 25th.....Christmas day. I just shook my head in disbelief, who would want packages being delivered during a family party, on what until recently was a sacred day ?

Report him to the corporate office! I'd bet he's making up his own rules to bump profit. I had to complain to Staples when the local store never had the weekly circular. I finally spoke to the store manager who claimed there wasn't one that week. I advised him I just finished looking at it online. He back-peddled and said they ran out. Enough was enough and I called corporate. It took a year or two but he's gone now and the new manager has been very open about doing things the right way unlike the previous manager.

I ship with Fedex about 1-5 times a week, and I make up boxes as needed, as well as wood crates to ship out Unimog parts. I have never had a problem with any of my boxes or shipping things out.

I noticed they recently changed a policy where there is no insurance unless they open and "inspect" your box to make sure you have packed it properly.

It was really awkward when I sent that bag of hammers to 9dreizig.

Similar, but not exactly the same. I had to pick up a must-be-sign-for package at FedEx Office last week, and the 2 people in front of me both had to have their packages re-boxed. The guy shipping the M-B strut only took 7 minutes, but the woman shipping the china set took 25 minutes. Each piece had to be individually wrapped and boxed, then double boxed. Her bill must have been astronomical. The FedEx counter people were pathetic.
