MINI's have some issues, just like any other modern car.

As for 'lots of plastic' - keep in mind these cars had a base price of just over $20k.

MINI is a 'fun' car - handles very good out of the box.

The 02-06 used the 'tritec' engine which was a joint venture between chrysler and daimler.

The 07+ engines are a product of citroen - peugeot joint venture.

Close enough...the Peugeot motors are in the majority of cars. I don't think I'd want a motor from either you mention

We have 53K on our Mini S. Wife drives it every day to work. Only issue was a coil went bad. That was replaced free of charge. Its been taken to the dealer for all routine stuff and the car has been completely trouble free. Wife absolutely loves the car. I'm sure I've cursed myself now......

No snow use here but lots of surefooted rainy travel on Michelin PSS. Run flats were disposed of at 20K which keeps the little bugger better planted.

This Mini is a 2012 MCS with ~30K nearly trouble-free miles with only a couple of service bulletins, all repaired under warranty.

MPG has been very consistent at 30+ MPG.

I will probably purchase an extended warranty just to be safe.

Our mini was my wife's winter car. We live in canada and get lots of snow

It had some blizzacks and she said the clubman was the best car she had ever driven in the snow. That says a lot cause she has driven my 4x4.

I on the other hand thought it was the worst winter car after having to drive it on a -40 day after the ridiculously expensive thermostat and water pump went for the second time in less than 2 years

My 2010 MCS just completed its 4 year warranty and I've had the following replaced under warranty: a thermostat, a light module, ac vents, sunroof wind deflector and a couple other small parts. It has been very reliable and a blast to drive. It currently has 30k on it and has started to make some creaking and rattling noises. I would buy another one.

I did have 3 of the first ones in the US back in 02, and had buybacks on a Cooper and Cooper CVT. The 02 MCS performed well and was very reliable except for a leaky coolant overflow tank.
