Street Outlaws yay or nay?

Yay, for me.
I think it's great.
Sure there's a bit of "creativity", nevertheless, I look forward to every episode.

Retarded. There was less drama in high school.

In my HS we had better cars than those clowns.

Take it to 231.

If you were into cars living on LI in the 80's you know what that meant.

Wow. Faster than the 1100 -1500 horsepower cars.
In high school. Cars running mid 7's in the 1/4 mile. Right. I believe you.

I like the Murder Nova and a few of the other regulars: I think in one season there was an early Beetle and something referred to as "The Farm Truck". However, as mentioned, the artificial drama and phoney trash-talk turns me off. A "reality" TV world we live in...

Fountain Ave, Conduit, Nassau Expwy, 1st Ave in Brooklyn, and of course Cross Bay Blvd!

Connecting Highway Tribute

The summer nights of my youth was spent hanging with my boys watching or running. Some very heavy hitters back in the day trailered the cars to the races. The cops pretty much turned a blind eye to the races, until of course a 440 Cuda and a Vette destroyed themselves by hitting a tree on Cross Bay heading to the bridge.

Wheew, exciting times for a teenage punk.

As far as the show, ehhh way too much drama/BS. But I do watch it if I don't fall asleep.

I understand that it is TV drama, and for some reason they have a well lit, empty road every night they have a race, but what the heck, I love old school muscle cars, and that Dominator 68 Dodge Dart reminds me of the 68 dart GTS I had as a 19 year old kid, (not nearly as fast with a crate 318).

The BS drama is all part of TV unfortunately. I know a couple of the guys on the show. The place that dynoed my 911 is Chuck with the white car.

They were using a chunk of a highway on the outskirts of a little town just outside of OKC. The local cops would shut it down for the production team. Now they use an old closed airport for some of the runs.

Bottom line is they have some very expensive crazy high HP cars. The Farm Truck is just nuts. 850 HP without Nitrous. Over 1100 with a little squirt.

One of my buddies is starting to hang out with that group and he goes to the races.

Like the cars--those guys definitely know what they are doing--Chief's car and Farm Truck are sick--saw where they Dyno'd farm trucks new motor and with nitrous it was putting out over 1,000HP

Other than the cars themselves and the actual races--complete garbage--all the trash talking, almost fights, fake dramas--fake races against "bait" fake "we almost got arrested". I would rather watch them working on the cars, then running the races, period. As if the police don't know they are running on the "street"--kind of hard to miss all the trailers and tow rigs and the TV production crews.

The show is a bastardization of what real street racing is, it's stupid.

At this point, the television channel revenue probably pays for the cars...

Check out the 1320Video channel on YouTube for some real street fights.

Like it - still................. but recently seeing the 'decline' in sight. The first few shows seemed 'real' enough, but has progressed waaay towards manufactured drama. Most of the cars shown, even ones from out of the area that come to race are serious high dollar.

I would bet the farm that Chiefs car "Crow" has minimum of $150K in it. The "Murder Nova" at least as much if not more. His car sports a big big block Chevy that was assembled / built by 'Pro-line' veeeery exclusive high end stuff.

Of course the running cars require constant maintenance and always an ever progressive test bed for the 'next better part' - which if it doesn't work your money is gone anyway. Not including if something breaks, OR you lose stacks of $100 bills. I don't care what anyone thinks or says, street racing is a huge rush at that level. Which is why the addiction is soooo powerful

Where did they run on 1st Ave? I don't remember that.

My street racing days were mainly on Staten Island. We ran on South ave and at the end of the West Shore expwy where it dead ended.

My guilty pleasure.

My buddies and I used to race but not at this level. Our cars were typically in the 11s. This is back in the late 80s/early90s.

The drama and crap between races is silly but I love hearing the cars and watching them run.

I live a few miles from where the street racers partake in Flint. I don't attend as it is known to be dangerous in that area. I can hear them on a clear night, however.

We have cars here, according to guys I have talked with, running 8s in the quarter.

Not all the cars on that show are 7 second cars.

And with few exceptions they are not streetable.

The car scene in the 70's-80's back on LI was awesome.

Not this fake bull**** of taking an unlimited class track car and running it on a closed controlled street. Although on 231 and Bell Blvd you did see cars coming off trailers after a day at Englishtown or Westhampton proudly wearing the numbers they ran that day.

This is back in the day when schools still had metal shop, auto shop, where guys could learn how to work with sheetmetal, weld, do body work, paint, turn wrenches.

Most of us back then had a car before we even had our learners permits. We worked on them with our fathers, brothers and friends so when we were legally allowed to drive so was the car.

You went to the school bus company who had a pile of used 4 bolt small and big blocks piled up out back that they'd sell you for $50. You stripped it down and ran it off to Jack Merkle for the machine work.

They were labors of love that were worked on for years and typically were not "finished" till Senior year when they got final paint.

They started as old beaters that may have been moms daily driver in years past, Jeff's 72 Chevelle, Tim's 64 Impalla, Joey's 71 Nova and 65 Cuda.

Legitimate 10 second cars that you could toss your slicks in the trunk, cruise the strip for chicks, pick up a race or two, get laid in the back seat at the end of the night and drive it to school Monday morning.

Everything about them was better.
