What If There Was Another Option Besides Life?

OK, this may seem a bit strange but I was thinking about life - basically complex organisms that move, replicate, adjust and manipulate their environs. So on Earth there are all sorts of examples but basically they do what is stated above. Chances are there are others examples in the universe as well. So either something is alive or it is not...but what if there were other options?

I don't know what they could be, heck maybe thats where Gods play? Just seems like in a really big universe that there has to be more then if something is alive or it is not...

(time to put the bowl down?)

Yea, stop drinking the bong water......!

If you are driving in a car at the speed of light, and you turn the headlights on, could they light up your path ?

M.D. Holloway 12-28-2014 05:47 PM

What would happen to me if I hit something going the speed of light? That would leave one hell of a dent!

The Universe is so huge there is room for all sorts of options IMO.

The Earth is a very small ball of dirt in a smallish solar system in an average galaxy somewhere near the center. We're more like an impurity than anything else.
The fact is if something happened to our world it would make no difference to the Universe. We are so insignificant that it's almost like we don't exist.

There would have to be other life out there.
The maths alone predicts this and if their society is much older than ours their lives would be very different.

The best you could do is close to the speed of light (90ish %) and there would be a huge explosion. All that energy has to go somewhere.

We define 'life' as an accumulation of carbon-based molecules. With repeated results of action.
That second sentence is the kicker....

Hard-wiring artificial replicates of simple animal life-forms brings forth the same actions:
Robot Embedded With Worm’s Nervous System

There are also the undead. I have seen them on the teli.

The universe is so huge. So many options for life exist.

Earth is so small. I mean really small. To give you an idea of how small. Let's say a creature on a distant planet farted, and each of those molecules of s*** floating in the air became a planet, and on that planet one particular creature thought they were soooo important.....

The ability to replicate and manipulate your environment to make or acquire food and make yourself more comfortable with a shelter is the basic definition of intelligence. After that the only difference is what level of intelligence one measures. Apes make basic tools and can figure out some problems but have no technology. They make a nest but they don't build a house.

To have some other form of alien non living thing that can replicate and protect themselves from the environment and other dangers would be something like a robot. A robot requires a maker to build that first one and now we get into religion and that is another discussion.

I can imaging a planet like the one in Terminator that is has self aware self replication and has the ability to build other robots to perform tasks as needed. One that was built by well meaning biological beings that either died out because of a disease or were destroyed by their creation.

No doubt there is hard evidence of a very large universe and the possibilities of things that are unimaginable to us is likely.

Someone has waaay too much time on his hands.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-29-2014 09:21 AM

We play "God" all the time. Likely other entities in the universe / multiverse do too.

I could go for pure consciousness. No body to worry about getting busted up or wearing out, posting on the internet just by thinking - the only downsides are no fun stuff like boinking the ladies or going around corners fast.

The way I see it, you have two options:

Zombie or Vampire.

Zombies are "the Dude" of the undead: little ambition or direction, they simply abide.

Vampires are more driven and goal-oriented. And they get laid.

The theme of the anime Ghost in the Shell (1995) - IMDb and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004) - IMDb.

Hollywood is remaking it  because they fired all their writers.

What if there were no absurd hypothetical questions?

"Life. Don't talk to me about life."
Sure leave it to the guy named Dent.

M.D. Holloway 12-29-2014 04:35 PM

Ya, I get the 'life' thing. What I am asking is something other then life. I can't out it into words but I have it in my head...
