Interstellar

Did a search and didn't find a tread on the movie interstellar.
We got a movie gift certificate and decided to see it yesterday.
Overall a great movie, kept me pinned to my seat (well... except for one quick bathroom break due to the free coke that went with the coupon).
Anyway,
Not a big Matthew McConaughey fan... haven't seen anything else he has been in and his TV commercials are... well... strange.
However I think he did a stellar job (sorry for the pun)
Anne Hathaway is sexy even in a bulky space suit.
I'm sure the astrophysics and aerospace guys can pick it apart... as a tech I could even pick some nits... but the movie was good enough to put reality on hold... for 169 minutes!
Did I mention Anne Hathaway is sexy even in a bulky space suit?

Eileen Collins is on the board of the company where I work. She introduced the movie when it opened at a local theater. I asked her what she thought. She said she loved it, but it was long. I asked her about Gravity and her comment was that Interstellar was far more believable and based on true science. I haven't seen it yet (really want to), but it's hard to find a better reference on a space movie than Eileen. Glad you liked it and thanks for the review, it's on my list!

Note that I didn't put any spoilers in my post.
I highly recommend it, it was released in October so I am a little surprised it is still in theaters so if you want to see it on the big screen (also highly recommended) you might want to get out to see it soon.
I also saw gravity and while I have a HUGE crush on Sandra Bullock so I love anything she does... interstellar is WAY more believe. (the scientist on this board already picked apart gravity).

I thought it was ok, had some problems with it, people in the position to go in space but won't follow orders, like Sandra in Gravity, the story was predictable, but then what isn't.

I thought it was awesome. Actually saw it twice, and glad I did. Took my daughter, then a few weeks later took my two sons (one is a budding aerospace engineer). We all loved it and I picked up on so much the second time that I missed initially. Strongly disagree with post above. There was a significant twist that was unexpected and brought the storyline full circle.

Acting was very good and screenplay was very well done. Highly recommended. No spoiler but "relativity" had a significant role.

I thought it was excellent! Brush up on black holes/astrophysics before seeing it. I will netflix it when it comes out.

No disrespect Dean, but remember these people were presented as scientist, not military like our past astronaut's.

Saw it - liked it - but some of the stuff does go against what we understand the universe to be.

Still, a pretty cool movie.

I made a point of going to see it in IMAX when it first came out. That was a great choice, because the stunning visuals were that much more impressive, and the soundtrack nearly pinned you to your seat.

I thought it was a spectacular movie, with the big twist being the icing on the cake. It did take a it to make heads or tales of the ending, though.

Saw it. Loved it...Then I saw Birdman the next week, which is easily the best film I've seen in the last couple of years, if not longer.

Dallas Buyers Club as well.

Interstellar is on the list.

Maybe that'll be tomorrow nights movie.

Like 2001? Wasn't until years later that I thought I got that ending...

Opps...quoted the wrong thread!

I enjoyed it but you have to suspend belief a little.

The Worm Hole concept was great but the ability to build a space ship that could navigate through one is something we can't even begin to comprehend.
The gravity alone would smash and rip us apart right down to individual atoms.
Then there's the issue of fuel in that small craft they were traveling around in and the guy that waited for 22 years from them to return from the "massive wave" planet.
What did he eat and drink for 22 years or did he sleep for most of that time?

I could go on and on but it was entertaining.

Yes, it's roughly on that level.

He did say he took a few naps while they were on the planet. Fuel wouldn't have been an issue if he was in a stable orbit. But it was a science fiction movie. I'm willing to look past small issues like that. Hell, I love Star Wars, which makes this look like a documentary by comparison.

I just saw it w/ my daughter who's home from college, we both really liked it - this was her second time seeing it. It did remind me of 2001, we were talking about that on the way home from the movie. She's going to watch that one next.

You can make Interstellar a drinking game in one move: Take a shot any time someone says the word "Gravity".

I lasted 15 minutes.

Key words here are "what we understand it to be"... a hundred years from now astrophysics might be teaching us the universe is made of bubblegum and cotton candy.

And of course after we went to see the movie a few weeks ago... It has now opened here at work at the IMAX where I can see it for free.

My wife doesn't seem enthused about seeing it again... going to lobby for a hall pass to see if I can stay late and see it again.
