If you have an iPhone do you use Siri.....

and just what do you use it for?

I never use it. Am I missing something?

dad911 01-01-2015 04:43 AM

Yes. Not often, but if I'm driving she can voice dial calls hands free, and send text messages.

Kind of funny to ask her silly questions, like if she wants to go to the movies.

911_Dude 01-01-2015 06:08 AM

I used it at first. But now Ill just use it for directions when driving maybe. Unfortunately, it always brings up iPhone Maps. Seems like just a novelty at this point. Give it a few more years.

widgeon13 01-01-2015 06:10 AM

More like a cocktail party tool, lets see who can elicit the dumbest response.

Honestly, it's cute but I never use it.

wdfifteen 01-01-2015 06:11 AM

I use it when I'm driving. I dictate a lot of notes to it, use it to send iMessages or make calls, and use it (her?) for driving directions. I find it very useful.

CHICKS 01-01-2015 06:43 AM

I use her when looking for food, and gas. I ask her to call whoever I want called, I also ask her measurement stuff, like how many oz's in a gallon, silly stuff like that.

calimedeiros 01-01-2015 07:15 AM

I never use her

maxnine11 01-01-2015 07:26 AM

We don't talk much anymore.

masraum 01-01-2015 07:29 AM

I don't have an iphone, but my boss does and I hear him use it fairly regularly.

Z-man 01-01-2015 07:40 AM

I use Siri to ask for what the weather will be, for sending text messages and make phone calls while driving, for trivia related questions, and some novelty stuff too.

Here's a amazing and scary thing you can do: Ask Siri what planes are flying overhead. It will tell you airlines, flight numbers, an altitude information.

slow&rusty 01-01-2015 07:46 AM

I use it and find it helpful when I am driving also to find restaurants and certain locations.

Noah930 01-01-2015 07:51 AM

My kids (elementary school aged) love playing around with Siri. Heck, every once in awhile I hear my daughter (play) arguing with her. :)

Wow, just tried that!

onewhippedpuppy 01-01-2015 08:26 AM

Nope. She rarely understands or finds what I'm looking for.

fintstone 01-01-2015 08:29 AM

Nice for handsfree or to simply bypass some keystrokes.

It is nice to say "Siri, send an email to Joe" or call Joe and she will look up their number or email address in your contacts and do so.

She will look up a song from your uploaded music and play it for you.

She is good for finding closest gas or fast food...since she knows where you are...even if you are lost.

Ask her to tell you a joke.

stomachmonkey 01-01-2015 08:48 AM

Just don't label your mom's cell number as Moms Cell in your contacts.

Siri: Call Moms Cell

"What is the number for Moms Cell?"

Siri: No, call Moms Cell

"You wish to call your mother, what is the number?"

Siri: It's Moms Cell, call Moms Cell

"I can call Moms Cell, what is Moms number?"

Siri: Moms Cell is the contact I want you to call.

"You want to make a contact for Moms Cell? I can do that. What is Moms number?"

**** you Siri

"I sense you are upset"

^^
Ha! I have a contact "Erins Cell." The only way I can get Siri to call it is to ask for, "Erincell" with an accent on the "rin."

nostatic 01-01-2015 10:48 AM

no

Charles Freeborn 01-01-2015 10:51 AM

We went steady for a while, but then we broke up. She just didn't understand me...

syncroid 01-01-2015 10:52 AM

I use Siri mostly for directions. The planes thing is very cool!

wdfifteen 01-01-2015 10:57 AM

I asked what satellites were above me. She gave me web sites so I could look it up myself. I think she's getting lazy and needs some competition to motivate her.

stealthn 01-01-2015 06:46 PM

Reminder/Alarms the most usefull stuff she does...

unclebilly 01-01-2015 06:50 PM

I travel a lot. I always ask for the best restaurant.

She finds a list of nearby restaurants based on heir yelp (I think) ratings. Super useful.

Unit conversion is good too.

My 4.5 year old son also likes he robot in dad's phone...

sc_rufctr 01-01-2015 09:21 PM

I use it to send txt messages to my kids when I'm walking. It works fine and it's much easier than typing.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-01-2015 10:55 PM

Siri is pretty cool and yes I call upon her frequently. I do hope that Apple continues to refine the technology.

I like the "hey Siri, what song is this" feature. Pretty neat.

targa911S 01-02-2015 04:22 AM

yes I use it for hands free stuff, information like what time do the steelers play, call home. But it has trouble with some pronunciations. You have to talk like it talks to get it to hear what you want it to hear.

Don Plumley 01-02-2015 07:23 AM

Frequently. When I'm driving and want a reminder (synch'd with ToDo Pro) or schedule an appointment. When driving and need to call someone. When driving I use it to text or email.

When I'm cooking, you can ask Siri, "Set a timer for three minutes"

Z-man 01-02-2015 07:30 AM

Forgot to mention this before: A few updates ago, they interfaced with Wolfram Alpha, which is a fantastic computational engine. So instead of pointing you to websites for complex calculations, conversions (miles to km for example), this inferface allows Siri to give you the results immediately. Working for a Germany company, I use Siri smetimes to quickly calculate dollars to Euro, miles to km...etc. Quick and easy.

Ask Siri, "I need to hide a body"

cstreit 01-02-2015 11:07 AM

I'd probably use it more if I could go hands free with it. ...but if I have to unlock the phone and then press a button, I'll just finish the job myself to ensure accuracy.

scottmandue 01-02-2015 11:25 AM

I have the android equivalent... use it for hands free texting, directions, setting alarms.

Google also has a "Siri-esque" function now. It's not bad, but it doesn't talk to you. I like the novelty of Siri, as far as asking "her" stupid questions and getting stupid responses back, but that's about all I'd use it for.

The other day, my son was looking up something on Google, and he started talking into his phone to get Google to search (don't get me started on his query...so not efficient), and I chastised him for how lazy his generation is. We, as kids had to go to the library, read books, read encyclopedias, etc. to perform research. Along came the internet and made everybody's lives easier; and NOW, they're too damn lazy to even TYPE what it is they're looking for, they just "talk" it! He thought my rant was funny, and it was intended in jest, but the point is still there...we are getting quite lazy as a society as we get smarter.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-02-2015 11:14 PM

If you have an iPhone do you use Siri.....

The drive to invent and create new technologies (which is not a lazy pursuit) has ironically always been driven by a desire to be more lazy and have to do less of life's menial tasks. Is this necessarily bad? (No right or wrong answer - just an interesting discussion topic).

Royze 01-03-2015 12:04 AM

I wasn't impressed by Siri, until I asked her to find me a massage with a happy ending..and she did that exactly!
I shall not disclose further info :D

Didn't the guy who invented the sewing machine delay release because he was afraid of putting seamstress out of work?

There is an app... I think it is called "assistant" that will talk back to you... male/female and you can even opt for a UK voice... however it was a little buggy so on my new phone I think I am using the google thing.

Noah930 01-06-2015 07:23 PM

Tonight, unbeknownst to me, my kids programmed Siri to call me "Big Boy."

porsche4life 01-06-2015 07:36 PM

That's awesome!
