what would you do?
i won an ebay auction for a signed copy of a mick foley book a couple of days ago. there was no reserve set for this. the auction started at 99 cents.
i paid with paypal, and waited for my book. just now i got an email from the seller through paypal saying that he cannot give the book away for the price that won the auction. ($2.25) however he would be willing to sell it for $20.00. i can understand wanting to get more for it, but if he was afraid of a short sale he should have placed a reserve on it. anyway, i am curious as to what the folks here have to say about this. thanks. |
He's a douchebag and needs to be reported to ebay and banned.
He broke his user agreement. |
Tell eBay.
|
1. Communicate with him that eBay policy and procedures dictate he is bound by the auction outcome and he only has himself to blame for how it ended up
2. In that same communication, let him know if he does not fulfill his end of the deal, you will report him to eBay PLUS leave negative feedback For that mere $17.75, he should understand it's not worth the crap he would have to endure if he doesn't hold up his end....and ultimately he should just ship you the book and (maybe) learn from his mistake |
If it's a seller with little feedback it's probably a newb mistake on his part. I'd negotiate with him a bit before chucking him under the bus.
If he's got over 100 feedback, toss him right under there. |
Exactly,, I was agreeing with Baz
|
Tell him you'll sell him the book for $25 and you'll pay the shipping charges.
|
If the book is worth it, give him a break. He must have forgot to place a reserve. Send him 10-15 bucks, no big deal, it's peanuts.
|
Do Not Do this.
"In that same communication, let him know if he does not fulfill his end of the deal, you will report him to eBay PLUS leave negative feedback" Never ever in an eBay email threaten to leave bad feedback. I'm a power seller, Hell I sell on ebay for a living and have for over 10 years. Just email him and tell him you'd like to book for the price you won the auction for. If he says no call eBay and talk to them. There is nothing they can really do they can't make him ship the book to you. But if you threaten him with bad feedback they will not even listen to you. |
Whatever you do, don't post his Ebay screen-name here or anywhere on the internet. Against Ebay fine print.....A Pelican friend of mine had the same thing happen with a set of Fuchs...Ebay seller was a Pelican and my friend called him out.........Friend got kicked off Ebay for 90 days.......That Fender dude from Az never did make it right.....
|
Ask him what he can do to sweeten the pot if you let him off the hook. Any other interesting books in his collection that have not made it to ebay that interest you?
...or, make the deal, but tell him Greg will ship it to him ( inside joke...you'll have to think back a few years to where we first met ) |
I recently had something like this happen on eBay. No reserve, got the item for less then 1/2 of regular online price. They didn't bother to ship it and when I filed a request for my part, they refunded my payment immediately. Basically the seller pretended it was lost in shipping.

I vaguely recognized the name so I googled it... you guys should too :D |

So.....first inform him the rules are the rules and he is obligated by eBay policy to hold up his end (and do not mention anything about feedback). Then......when he does not hold up his end....whamo.....hit him with the negative feedback! Works for me. BTW - I'm at 1,102 FB with 100%, but not a power seller. |
Challenge him to a cage match... winner gets the book
Sorry, sorry, sorry :) |
i sent him a polite message detailing my disappointment with his follow through.
i noticed other signed first editions that he sold for under two dollars. i suggested that he follow his conscience...... we'll see. thanks for the advice. i appreciate it. |

I would never expect someone to pay me more money for a mistake that was completely my fault, $17.75 is the cheap way to learn a lesson. |
I bought a horse once for $100. I paid for the horse and the farmer said he would deliver the horse on the weekend.
On Saturday the farmer told me my horse had died. I asked for a refund, but he said he'd already spent the money. I told him to bring the horse anyway. I was gonna raffle him off. I ran into the farmer about a month later. He asked me how my raffle went. I told him it was pretty great! I sold 1000 raffle tickets at $10 a piece. I made nearly $10,000! He asked me if anybody got pissed off. I told him, "Just the winner. So I gave him his $10 back." |
