GoPro mounting advice needed
My sons got me a GoPro for Christmas. I'm wondering which mounts I should buy. It will be used primarily for drives & an occasional DE in my '88 Carrera (no roll-bar or harness-bar to mount it to) & for skiing. I may use it in different cars sometimes. For skiing I think I will get a helmet mount, but what about DEs? I think I will get a helmet mount, but I also want to get another mount for the inside of the car. Can I attach it to the rear window with suction cups & a long "arm" so it is forward of the rear window? Or?
And for the racing helmet, should I mount it to the front, top or right side? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Back when I had my 2003 Mini Cooper S I would stick the video head from my race car between the seat and head rest of the passenger seat. That allowed me to move things around easily and even take it out and hold it by hand. Some of the videos I had during my commutes are scarier than my race videos!

Suction cups are surprisingly good, i have seen them holding at speed on the track. I was wondering the same thing as i am thinking of tobogganing with the kids today, i don't want to buy a helmut to mount it but would like to have it on while tobogganing.
I guess there is a gead mount i could where over a touque. For you in hotter climates a toboggan is a craft used for sliding down snow covered inclines, a touque is a warm head covering to wear while doing such an excersise. ![]()

Suction cup for the car. I used to mount to my helmet when skiing but I switched to a pole mount. Camera will be about 4' away and you get a great perspective of speed, height and distance that is lacking on a helmet mount. You can direct it on yourself or follow a buddy a buddy up close. In the terrain park the footage is very entertaining to watch.

If you decide to place it outside the vehicle run a safety wire tether. Corner workers could get rich if they charged for all the go pro recoveries on any given track weekend.
One on the loose. The camera smashed through the windscreen and destroyed the gauge cluster on it's way to hitting the rider in the chest Read more at LiveLeak.com - Smacked by a GoPro LiveLeak.com - Smacked by a GoPro

Suction cup works great on a car. I mount it all over the 911 when I autocross. |

Thanks for the comments, but what about in-car mounting? Other than a helmet mount, what other options work well?

Suction cup on the inside of the windshield or back window or side windows.

Yep...tether that thing....
go to home Depot and get the thin steel cable with the crimp connectors, you don't need to go crazy with it just so if the mount fails it won't take out someone's tire at speed on track.......watched this happen once......it's not pretty....

Or when the suction fails when it's attached to the front valance and you run over it at the start of the autocross and then your buddy behind you runs over it. Case is very strong!

I use it for leisurely drives or pelican runs, i put it on:
Interior - suction cup on windshield if you don't have roll bar mount. Exterior - suction cup on roof, hood, side rear quarter, front and rear windshield, window or front/rear fenders, whale tail or deck lid.

Unless you're Mini-Me, mounting to the top of a helmet will not work.
Not enough headroom.

If you are going to the track please don't mount it on the outside of your car.

Here's a skiing video I put together:
I have since put a mount on an expandable pole from a cleaning tool - but haven't used it skiing yet. These mounts were in front of my right binding and strapped to my pole below the handle.

The mount is attached to the ski surface in front of the binding. It is the standard 3M backed stick-on mount that the camera 'shoe' slides into. I used the rubber locking thing that prevents the mount 'shoe' from unlocking.

I had horrible luck with the sticky pads on my skis. Could be due to my skis being so close together, but I kept knocking the GoPro with sticky pad off.
