The New Marble Project

The other Bear is finished, I like it but think some things could change so I am starting another one. BIGGER. This will start out at 29" nose to tail. The piece weighs about 600 lbs. I just started on it today, these pictures show it at the beginning, then with some holes drilled in the back with wedges pounded in to split a piece off. I had to do a lot just to get it lighter to move it. I think this might take about six months.

Cool that you stick to the same animal. Looking forward to follow the progress.

Thanks, but after I finished the other bear I saw things I would like to do different, this will be similar, but different. and 10" longer.

as for cost, Marble like that usually costs around 2 bucks a lb. I have paid 4 bucks a lb for some stone. In fact, I bought some black jade in Arizona that cost 15 a lb. I have to be careful with that stuff.

Just an update, not looking so good yet but on the way. This is enough bigger that is seems to be a lot more work. Side, then Back, then front. I have really cut a lot off. With a lot to go.

Moving on, not very fast. Last week I had the chance, a three day holiday, but on Saturday morning I was using the angle grinder with a diamond blade and cut into the end of a finger. I felt it hit and didn't want to look, That took care of the weekend.
I went back yesterday and hammered it out a little more. It still probably weighs 350 lbs.

This is another Gecko, it is hand carved wax sitting on a piece of Marble I cut off the Polar Bear. The Marble weighs around 100 lbs. The Gecko is a little bigger than any I made in the past, maybe 18" long. I fit it to the stone and need to finish the feet. I will pour it in bronze next Thursday. The feet will have little pins so I can drill the marble and epoxy it together. A patio/garden piece.
