College Football
It's almost time! I already have tickets and hotel reservations for 7 games. Trying to attend 10 or more this year. Anyone else excited that the season is only a couple weeks away?

I'm looking forward to it. Effed up as the system is, I still find it very entertaining. I'll be in France for the second and third weekends, but the Big Ten will still be playing high school teams so no big loss.

If anyone wants to come to Gainesville for a UF game, you can park at my mom's which is a 10 block walk to the stadium (or 3 blocks or so to where you can catch a pedicab)

Can't wait! I think Kansas State will again surprise the pundits, and can't wait for the week 4 game with Auburn in Manhattan.

wish the top teams would play each other
and never play turkeys why does the TV people who pay the teams allow so many non-competitive games where is sportsmanship in in top teams playing no-hope teams example S car plays furman, east car, vandy, SOUTH AL BUT NOT AL T AM plays lamar, rice, SMU, LU monroe |

The lower level teams get big $ to play the top tier teams.
Especially for homecoming games at the good teams school.

Florida will be playing BOTH the previous two 2 years' national champions at home.....plus three other teams with top 20 AP 2014 preseason rankings: Alabama (2) LSU (13) Georgia (12) South Carolina (9) FSU (1) How does that compare to your team?

![]() College schedules are dictated by the conference, with the exception of a certain number of non-conference games. Usually 3 per season. The colleges are free to negotiate and set up those non-conference games (years in advance). Some teams, who already have very tough schedules will sign an agreement to play a creampuff team to pad their win/loss column, but also to help keep their players healthy. Some creampuff teams will sign to play a powerhouse, knowing full well they'll get their behinds kicked, just so that they can get in the spotlight and be seen on television. These teams usually give up most of the TV revenue to the big school, so it can be economically advantageous to play a creampuff. Often times, a team will play another team because it's part of a tradition or legacy (USC vs. Notre dame every year). Now as far as the TV people go, they usually sign a contract for the season. It's up to them if they want to televise ALL the games or just the good ones. They're already paid for. Zample: this year, USC plays non-conference games against fresno state, boston college, and Notre Dame. Usually they play their first game against hawaii, which is always a total route. So Fresno state is a tougher game, but boston college is nowhere near as tough as ohio state who USC has been playing recently. It all balances out. Notre dame is usually in the top 25. So, if you were an AD of a major school and had to schedule non-conference games 5 years in advance, would you pick tough teams or easier teams? If your team lost a shot at a national title or a major bowl game because they lost a non-conference game against a top school that YOU organized, how long would you have your job? Not long. |

This is our first year with season tickets for UVa. Kicking it off August 30th against UCLA, should be a close one.

My neighbor will be playing for Wake Forest this year and is #2 on the depth chart as a true freshmen at DE. He started 3 years in HS for a team that only lost 4 games during that time and some of those games were out of State. They play Fl State in Tallahassee this year, I might kill two birds with one stone there!
I'm a fan of all College teams, but I grew up going to Michigan games and I have a daughter at Central Fla. Next year Michigan's first home game is supposed to be UCF ! I'll be there ![]()

I've been a Tennessee Vols fan since the late 70s. There's been good stretches and bad stretches. The last few years have been especially brutal. This year will be brutal, too (hoping for 6-6 and a bowl game), but there is a storm on the horizon and Tennessee will be back.
Love me some college football.

What the heck were they thinking? When he was at USC that was his WORST attribute. He was so predictable I could call the play they were going to run while they were still in the huddle and get it right 3/4 of the time, and also tell how many yards they were going to loose ![]() |

Ultimately most trust Coach Saban to make the right decision. A LOT of the fan base's anxiety over this hire stem from his reputation off the field....character issues, etc. You know Florida has a new O.C. also - Kurt Roper - formerly of Duke, who almost beat aTm in last year's Chick-fil-a Bowl. And a new OL coach as well - Mike Summers formerly of USC. It's going to be a very interesting season for many programs this year.
