cutting the cable 2015 - watching F1 and Food Network

So after having Fios slowly creep up to $200/mo and then having it go out last weekend (tv, not internet oddly enough), I decided enough is enough. I am long out of contract so I removed phone and tv, bumped up bandwidth to 50mb up/down, and dropped the bill to $70/mo. Added Hulu+ and had Netflix (via AppleTV), and also added NHL game extra.

Basically everything we watch is covered except for local TV18 (Chinese broadcasting), Food Network, and F1. We don't watch any regular network shows or follow any other stuff.

The problems:

Food Network isn't really available other than through iTunes (buying a season of a show).

F1 - any way to get those broadcasts (and ideally record them)? It is on NBCSN and you can get the online/"extra" package, but you have to have an account with a TV provider (don't think the Fios network-only account applies).

It may be worth trying to get a cheap bundling of the basic TV service as that includes Food Network, TV18, and then provides an account to get the extra NBCSN content.

pita...

Take the time you would've spent watching F1 or Food network and read books instead. Your vocabulary will improve.

The Kodi media center has a plugin for Food Network shows. Don't know how current they are.

I've been using this with an old laptop connected with an HDMI to my tv. I have used it for NCAA basketball and football, but not F1.

+2 on this... it is a local Spanish station.
Food network is dead to me... 99% dumba$$ "reality" vote someone off the show crap.
PBS has way better cooking shows.

I'd like to find a way to watch F1 in 2015. I didn't have much interest in 2014, but maybe McLaren and Williams will be tougher competition for Mercedes in 2015. Not much hope for Ferrari, chez moi.

Food Network is of little interest, but I do like the Cooking Channel.

That said, in a few months you'll probably start getting offers to reconnect cable TV at discounted rates, if my experience after dropping Comcast TV is any guide. So far I have not bitten, but it is getting interesting.

It's very rare that I find anything of value on Cable TV these days. Probably a combination of bad programming and me getting old and crotchety. Hell I have lost all interest in The Walking Dead...

I would pull the plug on Direct TV yesterday but the wife and daughter would have my head.

When this gets figured out - a way to record F1 without NBCSN and our DVR, I'm done.

Everything else we need is on Netflix or Hulu as far as I can tell.

Subscribing to this thread with great interest.

This is what I can't figure out yet. The only way to get NBCSN is to have a "tv" account with a carrier. There are international services listed here:

How to watch F1 around the world - F1 Fanatic

And of course reddit has info

streaming - formula1

I'm willing to pay to watch. But at some point it is cheaper just to add TV to get the NBCSN...

There's a huge market for a Fire Stick-like dongle for sporting events. I suppose the sticking point is the fees.

The streaming link you posted is interesting. I can't imagine that Bernie would let that stay up if he found (or Sky TV) found it. Streaming is probably the answer for my need to time-shift/delay the replays. Reliable streaming unless it is coming from the source is likely the issue.

I wonder if you can get a friend in the UK to sign up for Sky Now TV, and use their credentials to watch? Do they block non UK IP addresses from streaming? I'd pay $10 a race.
