Clear coat foggy and flaking. Fix question.
Repaint the whole panel or spot the area with a clear coat rattle can? Cheap econo box commuter ride but I have a little pride.

Take it to Garage Los Ponchos in Tijuana for a one day sanding and respray or leave it for a few days for a better job. They are still open although business dropped way off for a few years. Search on here for their contact info.

I promise you it'll look like ***** / worse if you just hit that area with clear. Take an hour or so, tape the panel at edges, 400 grit lightly to sand down the remaining clear. then shoot w/rattle can clear

Burn the fire.

Looks like it flaked off all-the-way to the edge of the roof. If a daily driver of no (added) value, go to Earl Schieb (sp?) and get a quick $300 spray. You will have to do the prep work, be warned.

I would say it is pretty safe and since the extra lanes have opened the wait times have dropped way off. The last I was told by the owner's son was you need your title, registration and insurance on the car to get the body work done. I would suggest calling them to make sure they are still open and see what is anything has changed. They (all the shops) want 30% to 40% down to get the work started but that might be different too? If you decide to get them to do the work, use the Mexican Dupont paint as it holds up way better than the stuff that is sold in CA.

Thanks John. My workman was making fun of me this morning about dropping the truck off with a Cummins engine and when I go and get it, it will come with a newish toyota engine in there on its return trip. I would need him to go with me so he had relatives who live down there as well as translate at the taco stands

In the 1970's and 1980's when we raced bicycles down in most of the Baja cities and never had a problem with anything getting stolen or damaged. Same true when we raced the vintage 914-6 down there although now there are Mexican Marines guarding us which make me feel better. In the last race I did in Tijuana my wife and I went down the road a piece to get some tacos and such and a Marine went with us! I checked and his 5.56 ammo was all tracers and he said that was standard issue so I bought him dinner.

thanks John. I will take a chance in a few months and just leave it down there for a week. if they take it (just don't murder me) they can have the damn thing. That only means time for a new one.
Its a work truck and has a bunch of scratches on it. As I no longer use it as such but carry a piece of 2x4 or mainly my bicycle or show up to client's home on it, it should look presentable not beat up with peeling paint. Thanks for the info. will keep you posted on the paint job in a few months |

Leaving the car or truck a week is the best idea so they do not have to rush. Remember they work on "Mexican time" so things go slowly some times. Also make sure to not leave anything in the truck such as tools, extra tires, etc as the police at the border will stop you. They made me go back once when I took my race trailer down to get the race car as it had my spare wheels and tires on a rack and they thought I would be selling them in Tijuana!!!
