When did it hit you that you were a middle aged schlub?

I turn 45 this coming may. I think that , up until maybe last year, I felt young at heart, and still had a little bit of spunk left in me.
Just spent the last 2 days walking the streets of Key West, and it really hit home, that I am an no longer 21, 25,not even 35. I have zero desire to go out and whoop it up till the wee hours of the morning, and I now feel guilty looking at all those young rubbery girls that I used to drool over.
Other than carrying few extra pounds around the waist, I am still in decent shape, and strong. I can work all day like a boss, and still pedal my bike like I did 15 years ago, but I am finding a strange attraction to my couch when I come home from a long day at work.
Brushing my teeth this morning, and looking in the mirror, I came to the realization that my youth is long gone. What now? Should I join a bingo group?, Time to look for the early bird dinner specials?
At what age did it hit you?

52-ish.
Before that I still thought I was in my 30's.

Fred you are still a young man. When I go to Palm Springs and I am in my late 60's I feel young by comparison. It is all relative. Enjoy your youth!

Realizing you're a codger isn't half as terrifying as trying to figure out where the last 30 years went.

When you say to yourself, "wow, she look so young". 60 is the new middle age, I like to think. It really hasn't hit me yet, and I got a couple of years on ya. My ankle is a little stiff when I get up in the morning, pulling the all nighter requires a little extra work to stay awake. Falling asleep on the sofa after dinner watching TV if there's absolutely nothing to do. Yep. I noticed all the signs too.

i'm turning 45 this year too. I'm not as young as I was, but I still don't feel old. I don't have any desire to binge drink into the wee hours, but then that hasn't been my thing since I was about 25. And it was even less so after my years of bartending. The young ones still look yummy, but I'm not kidding myself about them wanting to hook up with me. Besides, I'e got a great missus. It's nice to look at the flowers in the garden though.

Yeah, I know that the world probably sees me as a middle aged guy, but hey, chicks were still thinking that Sean Connery was hot when he was in his 70s, so I'm not going to order my hover-round just yet. Getting old is a state of mind. I feel like the road runner when he'd hold up that sign that said he never studied the laws of physics. I figure I'm going to be like that 72 year old guy in the video that was posted here recently who still plays in his yard and is still very spunky.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

Embrace your middleageness!!

I am 47, have no job but a great wife and kids. Plus, I have a 911 in the garage.

When I see a band video from the 80's I sometimes wish time could be rewound so that I could change my direction to pursue being a professional drummer but I know that ain't gonna happen.

Life isn't so bad in the here and now. Besides, my wife keeps me young feeling.

A couple of days ago. Will be 51 in April. I'm almost over being sore from working on my car a week ago. Bulging disk in my neck didn't appreciate my attempts to torque bolts to over 100 ft pounds while under the car. Despite being 6' tall 170 pounds, and somewhat of a regular exerciser, my last physical revealed cholesterol >200 and elevated blood glucose level. I have a nagging unexplained low back pain. Not terrible, but bothers me just about any time I move.

On the bright side, I volunteer for a local group helping out older people with transportation and household chores/repairs. The 68 year old woman I visited for some computer training this week told me repeatedly that I looked like I was in my 30s.

I turned 50 last summer and it sucked. Everything has noticeably gone rapidly down hill since then. Its like somebody flipped a switch.

Couldn't have said it any better.

It's a mind-set. When I was in my '40's I planned to give up riding dirt bikes on the single track at age 50 and give up the dual-sport at age 60.

I'm 63 and still ride the single track. 76 mile snowmobile trip yesterday. Still do a 1,000 mile day on cross country MC trips every year

I just my age into account and don't try to ride like I did 20 yrs ago......UR doing just fine Fred.

Not yet, but getting closer. I'm holding out a bit longer.

I turned 50 last fall. My 26 yr old daughter threw my party and invited some of her husbands friends.
It was at a local watering hole with outdoor TVs, ping pong, etc. It was at The Yard for you Phx peeps.
One of her guy friends asked which was me and when she pointed me out, he was floored I was turning fitty. I quit eating meat last April and as a result, dropped some el bees and lowered my total cholesterol by 40+ points. I run a few times a week, hit the gym as well and did a half marathon in Kauai over labor day and I'm feeling pretty good these days. The more I work out, the better I feel.

However, that couch looks fairly inviting...

Since I never liked to party all night, I think it hit me when I realized I was more appreciative of the mothers of some of the young things I noticed and that the moms were a decade or more younger than me.

It's all good!

Around 40 I was feeling older than I was...... about that time I dumped the *****y, over weight drunkard wife and traded up to a much newer model who came with an exciting set of "features".

That was almost 25 years ago and I still feel like I am 35!

I musta been too busy to "feel old" . Can't beleive you kids that think it's all over at 45-50. Ya gotta stay busy to stay young. I am near 73 & driving to Datona for some R&R at The Rolex soon. Go have some fun.

Fast Fred. Your situation sounds great. Not everyone enjoyed the privilege of getting a bit older and being in great health. Enjoy And now you are older you don't need to feel guilty about looking at young chickies, lear at them They expect it.
