CAUTION - Phone app 'key' copy leads to nafarious activity HOME/OFFICE
Just a heads-up to not leaving your keys laying at random. Key copy / image to decipher the cut coding is a simple means for one to have a key to your home, office or other.
There's quite a few app's with just a quick download, take a picture of the physical key, take the code to a locksmith or order the key online and its done. No security or identity required. https://www.key.me/app Photograph Your House Key With This App, Then Print A Copy Anywhere | Popular Science https://keysduplicated.com/

I hadn't thought of that, but scary! I've taken to not carrying my keys lately. I leave them in my car, and just carry the keyfree fob in my pocket. Makes the trend towards RFID keys more enticing though. Harder to duplicate that fob I'd think. I really like the ones for our office.

My keys are in my pocket or in the lock. Only when I go to bed do the keys come out and left on my desk at home.

Good advice but it makes you wonder why anyone would write such an app.

Thanks way too much work, just make a bump key and you can get in to almost all locks...

Every time you walk through an airport...separated from your metal objects.....baseline TSA agents(such as Snowden or Anonymous) have the ability to do the same thing.
It has come to this point. That is the level of NSA infiltration. Last edited by john70t; 02-05-2015 at 07:58 PM.. |

Only when operating the lock cylinder. As I drive they are in the ignition. If I unlock a door they go right back in my pocket. I have never ever lost a single key. I never have to go looking for my keys. Even when we went on a two week vacation to Alaska and my keys did not fit any lock within 2,600 miles they were in my pocket. I am weird, yes I know.
