I can understand why people hate the u.s. postal service....

Package was sent to me earlier this month. Signature was requested apparently.

Note was left by carrier "no secure location to leave package".

I just called for a redelivery and was told "There was no safe place for the carrier to leave the package." I told them there is - I have lived here 17 years and my front door is way off the main road and secluded. I get parcels left here every month without incident.

Then she says "Will someone be there to sign for it?"

I say "Maybe - maybe not - how about I give my cell phone # for the carrier to call me if I'm not here?"

"She could get fired for that, sir"

I say "Why did the carrier even say anything about a secure location, then...if a signature was required - what difference does a secure location make?"

Crickets....

I hope it's returned to the sender. Then he can re-send without the stupid signature requirement...

There were two books my daughter wanted for Chanukah.

Hard to find in store.

Got them on Amazon.

Supposed to be delivered today which is good considering it's the last night of Chanukah and my daughter thinks she is not getting them.

Checked tracking a little bit ago, says they were delivered at 10 this morning and "Left in recipients mailbox"

I checked, someone is lying or they've been lifted.

Guess we'll know for sure later when the mail carrier gets here at his regular time.

Amazon does that a lot. Once it transfers from the shipper to USPS for final delivery Amazon assumes it is delivered that day at some point.

For the 4th Christmas in a row - as long as I've lived here - I left my carrier a $20 bill yesterday in an envelope with a hand-written note thanking him for his service.
He rang my door bell to shake my hand.
A couple of years ago he asked if I wanted him to sign for my packages.
I said, "Sure!"

However, the USPS does suck the big one!

Our fantastically less than competent mail courier at our new residence LOST an Home Equity Loan Check for $85k on us...

Yes, that is correct.

My guess is (see bold) the carrier was too lazy to drive off the main road and simply made up the excuse. At least you caught them in a BS story, if that's any satisfaction.

So, if they didn't follow the rules and delivered the package to your door and it was missing, you would not complain...and just "suck it up"...or would you complain and get them on trouble?

I did this when Paul (Widgeon13) sold me his iPhone.
He omitted key info on my address.
But I always had some trepidation that the deal would be fooked up, somehow.
But they did have it at my PO.

It is not always "your carrier". A few weeks ago a tracking email said a package had been delivered. Not. I called USPS. They said it was placed in the door. I asked my carrier. They often send out a separate person for that type of mail. A few days later it showed up - it had been delivered to the right number on the wrong street and they let their carrier know.

And that my friends is why you should always know (and tip) your postman. I gave mine $20 and a buttload of beef jerky on Saturday. I get first class service.

An update on the situation. I asked the shipper if he requested a sig. and he said "No."

So someone has their signals mixed up somewhere.

Also - my carrier just left and she said it must have been another carrier because she would have signed for me - plus she leaves stuff by the base of my steps all the time BECAUSE IT IS A SECURE LOCATION.

This location (base of my front steps) is a 10 second walk from the main road but my house sits all the way back on the lot further than most others in the area so along with that and all the foliage around my front yard - it is very secure.

Regarding tipping my carrier I do it every year. Not 2 weeks ago I gave her a really cool lady Gator knit cap to keep her ears warm on the chilly days. She's a HUGE Gator fan so I get treated first class anyway.

So she's going to grab my parcel tonight and drop it off tomorrow.

I'm still going to followup on whether or not a sig was really required. That will solve the last piece of the puzzle.

Same here, minus the jerky. When my wife was bedridden, he would bring the mail into the house for her.

Of course we like our mail carrier, and do not think evil thoughts about him. We also realize that the Post Office would make a profit if it wasn't for congress.

It's a set up, and some of you are being led by the nose.

You expect concierge service - you want it now, you want it cheap, and government subsidized. And they call ME a liberal.
Use UPS or FEDEX, they'll kiss your butt, but it will cost you.

No Patrick.....I don't want it now, cheap, or government subsidized. And I especially don't want my butt kissed!

I just want some common sense.

I usually don't have problems with the postal service - which is one the reasons this situation was a bit frustrating for me.

It's OK my carrier is going to take care of it. Good luck with that liberal thing!

My mail, UPS, driver all get a 30 dollar gift from my wife. Her and the kids see them all the time. When we get a package, its always behind the side gate by the kitchen door. Never have any worries. A couple of bucks goes a long way. Now, my Fed Ex drivers are pretty butt heads. All of them are like that. They driver no better then pizza delivery guys up here in the narrow streets. They block others double parked even if there are spaces two car length away. No, these are not big packages.
