Anyone else like the deleted center console look?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1412674735.jpg
I can’t explain why that center console delete looks so innately pleasing to me. The juxtaposition of bucket seats with connected leg room area? The way the passenger and drivers side become one? Larger expanse of one space? Stylistically, a case of “less is more”. Less busy. Less clutter. Clean. I like the lower dash also....(no glovebox door, no heater controls, no radio, etc) Door panels are also simplified. |
I like it. The console was not well integrated in the 911. It looks tacked on, like an afterthought.
|
That car has a Hargett shifter.
The early impact bumper sport seats are nice but the formed Al cover running across the dash detracts. |
Generally, not so much. It reminds me of the Delta 88 that was my first car. However, a bad console that's a complete afterthought reminds me of the same car with the transmission hump cupholder console that she bought at Wal Mart.
|
That's a very clean and tidy job...the rug really ties the cockpit together.
That shifter is going to get very hot and very cold. |
I have a Hargett - it definitely gets freakin cold. But it doesn't heat up that much.
|
It does not look bad, but it would not work for my car and my needs. I have working A/C and power door locks. I use the cubby hole on road trips. I could not get rid of mine, but that is my car and my needs.
It is your car, it looks good and I hope you like it. Nice work. |
I love simplicity.
The console in those 911s looks tacked on because it is. Ever remove one? It's basically a standalone console screwed to the floor. I like the GT3 console delete on the newer cars as well. Someday I want to do a lightweight hot rod 986 or 996, a modern take on the RS concept. Lightweight manual seats, radio delete, RS style door panels with cloth pulls, stripped trunk, lightweight wheels, etc. All starting with a simple base model car. I suspect a 2500 lbs 986 could be easily had, the 1997 models were only about 2750 stock. |
You'd need to replace the buckets with a bench to complete the look.
|
I dig it! In fact, i just installed that Rennline dash! My center console is long gone.

I did it as soon as I removed the a/c.

I grew up with cars from an older period. You could open the hood and see the ground and had mostly plenty of room to reach things that needed work. They also had bench seats and no center console. I like the open feeling of not having a center console. My '67, '72, and current '69 don't have consoles. My wife's car (2012 sport type model) has a center console and sport type seats. When I drive it I feel like I've been stuffed into a cocoon. I'm just more comfortable with the feeling of having more space.

I was tempted to install the GT3 console delete that Matt mentioned but I really like the parcel shelf for my phone and wallet. Still tempted though. |
I like it too, cleaner.. Only downside is the passenger can now mess with the gas pedal ;-)
I like it so much I also removed it on my bmw 2002. |
Hated it. Removed AC and it and never looked back.

Yes! Love the no console look! I removed the one I had in the 930. The 993 has the console a little too integrated to bother with removal. Not mine, but some faves:
