If you drove that to Tahoe to go skiing, the envy from people would be palpable.

I'd LOVE to have a Unimog!

I watched a Unimog club playing around on Hells Revenge in Moab. Coolest looking things I've even seen. ENJOY!

I certainly hope you document the process and share with us here.

As much as I would love to own a Unimog I freely admit that beyond basic maintenance I don't have the mechanical experience/skills/shop/equipment to pull it off. Good luck!

temptation.

It pains me to offer you all the chance to buy my unimog. This is a dream truck( at least it was mine). It is as capable as any buggy or high lift truck, hell it is more of a tractor than a truck. If you have never seen one in action you should check them out on you tube it will blow your mind, and will make you need this truck. she makes a hummer (the real ones) look like a geo tracker. If you have ever priced mogs especialy in the AK you know that a cherry one will go for around about 30 to 40k. . She is a 1975 with a little south of 4,000 of miles on her. I found her in Illinois where she spent her life as a plow truck for a MB dealership. Speaking of the being a plow truck, to sweeten the deal I will throw in my shmidt plow. The plow alone weighs 2,000 lbs, and measures 10' 7'' wide and about 3' tall. Nothing will out plow this truck short of heavy equipment. Sorry I do not have chains for her, but I do have a winch I will throw in, a PTO driven type. So yeah she aint cherry like I said she has a few problems. nothing too major. Some of the rubber stuff has got some dry rot, and she has a little rust not too bad though. Her diffs are stuck locked, and she needs a couple brake slave cylinders. her diffs and brakes are her biggest problems that I have found. On the flip side the engine runs great. As does the 4x2 trany. She also has a new set of michelin 395/75 R20 AG tires on her. Like I say she is an amazing rig, she will climb and go anywhere. With a little money and time this truck could be the gnarlist truck in hunting camp or where ever you owe it to yourself to buy this truck. driving her makes you feel like a little kid again, and that alone is worth the 17k. Shop manual included.

Text at 907 twofivefive2seventhreenine or respond by email. Appreciate it. Mike

From what I can infer from the Mercedes forums, chatting with Von, etc is the 404 is the 914 of the Unimog world. I've been passively searching for a number of years, just laying low and waiting for something to pop up fairly close. The hard cabs are somewhat rare, so I jumped on it.

There is a cool feature on this truck bed though. There were the tabs along the side and little thumbscrews underneath that I couldn't figure out. I had a couple of friends over yesterday and one of them discovered the secret:

Welcome to the "Dark Side"!!! I drive my Unimogs more than the Porsches! Just that much fun, and no speeding tickets!

That's just the impression I get from reading some of the forums on the 'net.

As much as I like the open bed models, I could just about justify it as a "work truck" if it has a box-back like this.

Fill it up with tools and supplies, and tell Uncle Sam it is a work related expense. Plus, it will look cool and/or confusing when I roll out to the airport in this thing. Digging the flat black. Maybe it needs a skull or two stenciled on the sides?

The ad: http://unimogshop.com/ads/unimog-u1300l-ambulance-converted-camper/

Another good-looking mog:

$13.5k

I think that may be a little rich for what I got, but I haven't seen many I'd consider buying. I spent another $500 on parts to get the brakes going.
