The Fall Of The Existing Order

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."...Edmond Burke

President Obama dismisses the notion that the "existing order" sic the West can fall to fundamentalist Islam. Citing that most Muslims are good and honest men. However Hitler never had the support of the majority of Germans in his seizing of power for it was as Burke said that all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Thus the minority hijacked a nation and by the same token a minority can hijack a religion.

It is that minority religious viewpoint that must be called out and dealt with, not only by the Western powers in an act of self preservation but by Islam itself. For if Islam accedes to the fundamentalist viewpoint as the Germans did to Fascism then they have co opted the ideal and are as guilty as fundamentalist.

Tabs you're looking to the wrong person to do something.

Barry is not 'good men'. you need to look to those who ARE good men and ask what they are doing.

Funny how some folks are so quick to attribute folks doing evil in the name of religion as just a natural extension of religion in general (i.e. duck god vs rabbit god) when one rarely sees terrorism, murder, rape, conquest, pedophilia, etc.. in the name of religion except for one.

IMHO, dealing with this has nothing to do with religion. Simply kill the folks who commit these crimes against humanity or support them (regardless of religion) and see who is left. I imagine, one certain religion would have a lot fewer followers though...since these acts against the rest of humanity are pretty much cornerstones of their religion.

Every few millennia some zealots come to this conclusion. That cartoon would be hilarious if it weren't so true.

The possibility is for the religion of Islam to be swept away on the tide of fundamentalism because the good men of Islam look away as the Germans who looked away were swept away with Hitler. So this has nothing to do with President Obama per se except to state that his thinking is a little less than perceptive.

good men of islam?

sorry but you don't watch the atrocities we've witnessed with silence and still get to be a 'good man of islam'.

that title is, imo, forever voided for all muslims. the best any muslim can attain today IMO is 'indifferent' and frankly that isn't good enough for the US of A.

This exactly. It's surprising how many folks lack the ability to discern the difference between individuals going rogue and doing bad things and a group that promotes the very things modern society/humanity frowns upon.

You don't see too many ***ENTER ANY RELIGION EXCEMPT ISLAM*** promoting/justifying the atrocities committed by the followers of Islam that choose to act on the teachings of the Quran. And you don't see the Islamic community disassociating themselves from those that choose to act on the teachings of the Quran. When we do hear the occasional disassociation, as we did in France, is it genuine or is it a cover?

Qur'an (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves."

Bukhari (84:64-65) - Speaking from a position of power at the time, Ali confirms that lying is permissible in order to deceive an "enemy."

Islam is the perfect platform for a terrorist organization.

Upon some reflection whilst reading comments by others on this most contentious of issues, perhaps my post should've read: The Road Goes Ever On - Ad nauseam

Every living substance that I have made will I destroy. Genesis 7:4

And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou love, and get thee into the land of Moriah. Offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. Genesis 22:2

Then there's Exodus. Plagues, God drowning the Egyptians, Israelites made to wander.. Goes on and on.

If you want to go toe to toe on religious scripture, the Bible is quite on par with the Koran.

This belongs in PARF.

Genesis 7:4 - the difference is that God says that HE will destroy everything. He is not commanding others to do the destruction.

Genesis 22:2 *continue from your quote*...And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me....

I'm well aware of the violence in the bible. The difference is the context in which the violence takes place and the actions that are commanded of the followers.

for example take Exodus 23:22 But if you shall indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. - nowhere does it say to lop off your enemies head

Leviticus 26:6 And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. -This talks about how God will protect you.

Here's one that talks about murder:
Dt.13:6-10 "If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you ... Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die." -when I read this I don't feel like going out and killing people that don't believe in "MY" god. This is more of a defensive context.

To compare the cluster f*ck that is Islam to Christianity is like trying to find commonality between oil and water.
