Fun/interseting things to do Sunday in Huntingto/Newport beach

Sunday is my birthday, we are planning on doing brunch in Belmont Shore the then motor down the coast a bit... could do Fashion Island (BTDT) then hop on the 405 to come back home... also have hiked around the Bolsa Chica wetlands before... thinking maybe the Newport back bay might be interesting but I have no idea where to start such an adventure.
Any suggestions?
TIA

I enjoy the Main St scene in Huntington Beach when the weathers good.

Rent open top kayaks (or tandem) and paddle around the back bay in Newport. Relax, water is shallow, and get some exercise all at the same time. When you fell like it, pull up to a coffee house and sit for a bit, look at other women. Just remember to bring your mirror coded sunglasses. the weather will be perfect and the water isn't cold. you don't get wet really.

I love the kayak idea however my wife is hydrophobic (look mom, I used a big word!) I am considering Huntington main street. Has anyone hiked around the Newport back bay area?
Thanks for the input.

I prefer Laguna Beach for hiking. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Aliso and Wood Canyon, or Crystal Cove (Morro Canyon).

Scott, most of that is only chest deep and you float like a balloon with the life vest.

you make her sound like she would get near a shower

Crystal Cove is nice, you can start at Beach Comber and they have trail maps at the visitor center. If you head South from there you can do a long beach walk(about 1.5 miles) and then go through the tunnel at the Moro Campground and head into the hills.

I know, I know, ironic because am a native SoCal boy... lived at the beach and love swimming in the ocean.

She almost drown in a lake and has an irrational fear of water. (she does shower and will brave a hot tub thou)

Ah this takes me back. I used to love Balboa Island and Ruby's on the Pier. Love Laguna Beach and Greater's Corner or Las Brisas. I should go back and visit.

Looks like there are three (or more) entrances to Crystal Cove, I'm thinking of using Pelican (no pun intended) any other suggestions for Crystal cove?

Depending on what your plans are I would park at Los Trancos and you can start or finish with a drink at Beachcomber and validate your parking. From Los Trancos you can either take the shuttle down to the historic district or enjoy a short walk with a tunnel under the PCH.
