Turbo Tax pissed me off
Can you import data from turbo tax into any other tax software like H&R block etc.?
I've used turbo tax for probably 15 years but no more. I remember getting it on floppy discs. When you go to enter capital gains and losses it tells you you need to upgrade to premiere. This is different from previous years and there is no mention of it on the box. A quick $30 bucks for them.

Well, they are trying to make it right but they screwed the pooch. Pretty stupid decision on their part.

I'd say there are a few decision makers looking for new jobs at Turbo Tax this year. In the day and age of internet, anyone at a company who suggests "We'll just do it quietly and hope no one notices" should be instantly fired.

I have had Turbo Tax for several years. I bought it at Costco this year as it is the cheapest. I got the Premier one due needing it for rental property, stocks, bonds etc.
On the reverse side of the box is a grid stating what each level covers. Basic and Standard do not cover stocks, bonds, investment property. I bought the CD from Costco rather than buying it from Turbo Tax because they are trying to promote all kinds of other stuff I don't need. Around $60 Can here or approx $50 US. Guy |

Doesn't TT allow lower income folks(those that don't itemize) file Fed for free? They thought they would get a free pass on screwing the upper middle class to pay for what they give away for free to the peons.

Yeah but how do you justify doing something so sneaky and underhanded in the first place?
I don't know what to compare this to. Like buying a car and then saying at delivery "the tires are extra".

Now in 993 land ...

Not surprised e-filing is compromised. Only a question of time. I always send printouts - I'd never send my entire financial information, SSN, DOB of the entire family across the internet ... you can apply for just about anything with that info - loans, new passport etc. etc.

You gotta watch these companies. Cash Call was just fined $1 million in Calif for bait and switch loans. They offered loans for $2600 because Calif has an APR cap of 30% on loans of $2500 or less.
When people would ask for a loan of $2k-2500 they would tell them they didn't loan under $2600 but you could use the extra cash as a "pre payment" on the loan and just give it back. The loans then carried an APR of 179%. Bastards.

I got lucky and noticed that the schedules I needed were no longer in TT Deluxe before I made my habitual annual TT purchase. Bought H&R Block software and it imported my previous year's TT data without drama.
I would have preferred to stay with TT but now that I have made the switch I probably won't go back. I got an email from Intuit yesterday about the Feb 7th fix ... too late. They should have seen this Tsunami coming.

Good to know shadetree. I wondered if I could dump TT and have a seemless transition to another software. Tim Geitner prefers TT.

I had to fill out form 14039 Identity Theft Affidavit for the treasury. I wonder if that form is included in the Deluxe or if you have to buy the ******* Premier to get it.

Last year I did the online version of Turbo Tax, but found a decent price on the download version this year so I bought Home and Business because I had to. Do they offer any type of refund since I already bought it? Nope, you had to be a cd/download customer last year. Someone really had their head up their ass at Intuit this year.
