first Colbert, then Stewart...executives at Comedy Central must be freaking out trying to fill the void

I stopped watching when Craig Kilborn left...

I have to admit, my growing frustration with mainstream media news has me enjoying Jon Stewart every night. I hope Oliver takes over, but he said he's committed to HBO.

where will dullards get their news now?

At Fox just as they always have.

Network tv and 24 hour news stations?

I don't always agree with his politics, but Stewart is a viciously smart guy. If you've never seen it, watch his Crossfire interview. I can't recall ever seeing a tv news host so completely shredded. While he may be primarily satire, there's as much truth in his reporting as any mainstream source.

you misspelled NPR.

Rusty914s 02-11-2015 11:34 AM

funny enough, was just watching this interview. Steward simply owns the "real" news.

LOL! Yes, Fox pretty much has the dullard audience wrapped up.

Rusty914s 02-11-2015 11:41 AM

Your typical Fox viewer would have a headache trying to keep their focus for longer than 15 seconds.

The guy they got to replace Colbert really, really, really sucks. I also don't always agree with Stewarts but think he is the funniest person on TV right now plus he is amazingly fast and sharp, every time I watch him I can't help but laugh.

varmint 02-11-2015 11:47 AM

stewart pulled off the neat trick of keeping his audience ignorant while making them feel smugly superior.

You are not a fan... check, got it.

vash 02-11-2015 12:26 PM

He's a comedian on a comedy channel.

His job was to be funny. He was great at his job.

So true. I've only ever watched clips I've seen posted on other sites and he definitely super sharp and funny. But man, are the folks who think he's a news source ignorant. My sister is one such person. She can't discuss it unless she saw it on TDS and she only knows what JS told her about an issue. I don't do politics on Facebook, but a lot of my friends do and, when they post TDS clips and get on their high horses, I can't help but to do a face palm.

I have relatives who do the same thing. He is smart; he can be incredibly funny and I enjoyed watching him sometimes but IMO he'd have been a heck of a lot better if he applied his wit equally. I don't think he ever had the stones to take on Obama (let's face it there's A LOT of material there) and his interview of Pelosi was a (boring) joke.

If you're gonna be a comedian and get political you shouldn't try to alienate half your audience.

Shouldn't you be saving your criticism for the politicians that _are_ political…and alienate half (47%) of the people they are promising to represent.
