The biggest problem in society today is the sense of entitlement.

I can remember when Prince came out with his ..Party like it's 1999 song. That seemed like an eternity away at the time.

I'd like to re-write the song to "Wish I could party like I did in 1999..." :D

1999 was about seeing NO immediate future and that we should all enjoy the limited time we have before nuclear armageddon.

It is ironic that it seems an eternity ago we had reactionary leaders with their fingers on the button. I distinctly remember being taught that the Russians were the most evil people on the planet and deserved to die in nuclear fire.

It is interesting that a generation of children will have no understanding of the Cold War. Although Putin seems determined to take us back there...

Yea true - something I've thought about a lot too. I grew up with the ever-present threat of nuclear annihilation as a result of differing opinions about economic systems. Pretty stupid when one thinks about it but there it is...

The Cold War years were strange ones.

To those who say it's always been this way - that's my point. By now (2015) you'd think we would like in a more utopian society.

No jealousy or division of the masses - very little crime - a smoothly running and efficient government - communities kept very tidy.

I just don't see it - and I don't think it's because I'm some kind of cynic.

The town I live in for example...wonderful geographic location - lots of natural beauty. But because of people - the place is very dilapidated and trashy looking, aside from the occasional property owner who does keep his place nice and tidy.

Can't we do better? It's disappointing.

I was talking about this the other day, how our society has changed so much. Actually I think things have gotten much better. We are a more tolerant society with many aspects. Just look at the racial divide. While there is still much work to go, our society doesn't even tolerate the 'N' word any more. Society (regardless of religious beliefs) tolerates transgender and gay life styles. Women are taking on greater leadership roles. There seems to be much more compassion for the poor or at least those who are suffering. And think of the respect the country shows the vets - everytime you turn around there is someone thinking a service person. Its really awesome but all these things never happened when I was young.

Consider the advancements in medicine, communications, electronics, heck even cars are 10X more reliable then ever before.

I Think we are way to hard on ourselves, we forget how things were.

Read "Physics of the Future" by Kaku. Developments of the last 100 years are nothing compared to what's coming in the next 100. Fascinating stuff our kids will see...if we don't anhialate ourselves first.
