I already do the turning the mirrors to the ground trick but I haven't tried sunglasses yet. Turning the mirror down doesn't help with the oncoming traffic.

Seems to be an attitude of "if you can, you should" with the manufacturers. The headlights, stock headlights at least, must still be regulated to some extent. For me the bigger problem is the taillights. Some are so intense they are painful to look at.

Along similar lines are the LED lights now atop emergency vehicles. Two weeks ago I drove through a very bad accident scene at 5:00 AM on the interstate. Traffic was non-existent, so I was crawling through the mess at 5 mph. But the flashing lights on the parked police units were so intense I was functionally blind, and would have run over the officer standing in the middle of it directing traffic, if he had not moved to the side.

What's needed is a "safe" limit for all manufacturers and a way for the cops to check the aftermarket kits.

I had to follow a snowplow in to work this morning at 6.00 AM. His rearward lights were so intense, I had to flip my visor down and watch his tail lights, that doesn't seem safe.

I live in ex-urban area with no public lighting at all. The trend is towards the blinding blue lights. When they come around a curve and your pupils are wide open it sure does hurt.

I just bought a new Lincoln MKZ hybrid. Driving it off the lot, my wife was in front of me and called. She said "that car has those crazy bright lights". I didn't notice it when I test drove it, but after a few months of ownership, I get a lot of high beam flashing as if I have my high beams on. I now realize every bulb on the inside and outside are LED's. Nothing I can do about the light intensity.

Four foot tall LED brake/tail lights. You could use these things to direct carrier landings.
