My home is within an hour's drive of 4 top notch Steelhead rivers. I pretty much only fly fish for em' later in the summer these days. Anyone wanting a guided trip for free, gimme a yell. In late August, the salmon run starts.

Pick yourself.
I don't have a quota.....come later in June, I'll be going fishing....assuming the old bod is up to it.......and youz' guys are welcome to come along. I no longer have the endurance to turn these trips in to a marathon.....but I know some spots & techniques. My old fishin' buddies have passed on to those great fishing holes in the sky.

Nuts! Wish I had known you were going to try Kayak Point! You can go there, or deception pass is good too on the right tide from what I hear. Try using these from the shore...

No fish this morning on the Cascade. My daughter is coming along great though. She's six now, and is fishing with a 10'6" spinning rod using floats to boot. I'm a proud papa. My little girl is growing up so fast.

I've been looking for a good Socal fishing spot. If anyone has a recommendation for something within an hour or so around Los Angeles I'm looking for some. We don't have a boat and my kids are not that old. Fresh water or saltwater ideas are on the table.

me and my boys who are 7 and 10 checked out Castaic Lake yesterday - it was mid-afternoon so I didn't expect anything to be biting. It was more about checking out the site. The lower lagoon looked interesting with nice looking camping sites on one side and a decent park area on the other. You can tell the drought is impacting the water level too. You could see some smaller fish in the water but as I said, nothing was biting. Normally I would get out there in the very early morning.

I'm looking for something that is fishable - so not requiring a ton of skill but I don't want to just take them to troutdale in Ventura (trout farm). I want them to learn how to actually fish...

Aren't they a bit too young to be drinking beer :D? I keed, I keed....remember the old joke about teaching a man to fish? Good luck finding a fishing spot Mikester ....although a "trout farm" might be appropriate at their ages due to short attention spans. Need to have plenty of action for 'em when they're young (for most)....I've taken a few friends' kids to my ponds....THAT'S about the only time I'll ever hook live bait (i.e worms, minnows) on a hook & bobber...not really "fishing" imo, but it'll get bites for 'em easier. Me....I don't care if they're biting or not....there's no such thing as a bad day fishing imo ;)

Castaic is more of a "Bass Boat" lake, don't think you'll have much luck there. If you wanted to go a bit further north there's the Kern River. The 20 mile stretch of the upper Kern is fishing well from early AM to around noon. You'd probably want to spend the night, Kern Lodge is nice The Kern Lodge - Kernville - United States

You can try Piru, they rent boats and "party barges". They catch some decent trout there. Otherwise, fish the piers down in your area or in the harbors. Always something swimming around there.

Can't believe there are no bikini clad young ladies that fish on here.

My old fishin' buddy "Sam" (an oldie but a good laugh....had to go find it on the 'net):

Fishing with Sam

After I retired, I met a new fishing buddy named Sam. Sam loves to fish as much as I do. My wife has never met Sam and always feels that I spend too much time fishing. The other day I took a picture of Sam holding up two nice bass that we caught, I showed the picture to my wife. Now my wife says that I can't go fishing with Sam anymore and wants me to sell the boat. Guess she doesn't like me enjoying myself with my fishing buddy! Maybe it's because Sam is a better fisherman than she is, I don't know.

What would you do? Tell her to forget it and continue fishing with Sam, OR Quit fishing and sell the boat? Please help me out.

Scroll down to see the picture of Sam, and the bass we caught.
