Todays version of Dale Carnegie training?

I was promoted a couple months ago and recently learned that the position comes with the requirement of taking some type of "Assertiveness/Carnegie style" training. I don't mind at all really and they are quite flexible; I can dictate not only the timing but choose the course if I can make the case for it.

That being the said...what's out there these days that isn't horrible? I would prefer something with zero role-playing nonsense but I'm imagining that's a pipe dream Anyone recently take a course that they were impressed with? Thanks,

Sorry, but "Assertiveness/Carnegie style" training sounds like an oxymoron to me.

I've been through Dale Carnegie training, but it didn't have anything to do with assertiveness.

I had to do a dale Carnegie thing at my last job. I found the whole experience quite bizarre.

Time wasters.... I like actual learning courses...here is the new widget, its better than the old widget because....bla bla bla.
But these "sales training" "assertiveness training" and "sensitivity" training courses don't work for me. I cant remember the name of the last guy that did a seminar at our work...I cant recall anything I may have "learned" from it either. Other than the guy "tags" you as a type of bird based on your characteristics...I was an Eagle-Owl.
On the feed back page of our "test" I told him this cost my employer 10 times more than its worth and I feel like you owe me for the three days out in the field I missed earing money....
I honestly hope your experience will be better than mine.

Ha, thanks guys... your experiences echo my expectations. I have been to several training seminars and can't recall a one I thought was "worth it" but his is required. Mike, I'll PM you, thanks.

I am very impressed with Secrets of Question Based Selling, a book by Thomas Freese. He of course has spun this into course work. I have no connection to Mr. Freese other than thinking highly of his book. Here is a link.

Training Programs - Strategic Sales Methodology and Training – QBS Research, Inc.

Good luck. I have been a professional salesperson my entire career. I agree with alot of above. Most classes are a complete waste.
