Earlier this year I turned down a raise at a new firm that represented a 16~24% raise (it depends on how you look at it) because I was very happy with where I am at. However, I have another firm that is actively trying to recruit me and we are close to negotiating.
So if you are happy at your current employer, what % would be the number that you couldn't say no to.
To further complicate the decision, I am in-line to get a promotion in September that carries with it a 14 ~ 18% raise. Obviously nothing is done until you have it in writing, so do you add 15% to the number it would take to get it done?
I am happy where I am at and if I don't leave i won't be disappointed, but a 25~30% raise means my next car purchase could have a word like "turbo" written on the back.
