Help with Virus!!
Hello guys, last night I got an email which i should not have opened, now my email is inoperative and my Nrton Antivirus 2002 is also inoperative. I recall getting something similar a while back, and Bill V helped us out, it was Bugbear@mm. Same symptoms, different virus. I am computer illiterate! Can anyone help?? Here is the link I clicked on.DO NOT CLICK, VIRUS!! Let's not actually link to anything.
Thanks!!! |

Be sure to forward that information to Yahoo so they can take it down...
|
That and update the patches on your system.

Mike, try http://www.mcafee.com. They have evauation versions of their Viruscan software you can download for free and hopefully clear up your problem.
In the meantime, let me spell it out for everyone in big bold letters:
DON'T OPEN EMAIL ATTACHMENTS FROM ANYONE, PERIOD!
|
AVG Anti virus Free anti virus software, Good peice of kit with free updates and all the bells and whistles,
oh and did I mention free? |
Guys, thanks for the help, unfortunately, nothing helped. Any other ideas??
I'm freakin out!!! |
Try to figure out what virus you have by the descriptions given at the various AV sites. Down load the specific fixes. . . .any AV (anti-virus) download fixes should be made from an uninfected cmptr. (There's a handful of viruses that will attack the virus library of the AV fixes.)

Hi Island, the symptoms this virus is causing are similar to Bugbear@mm. My email is inoperative, and my Norton Antivirus 2002 is rendered useless. Unfortunately, the Bugbear removal tool does not detect anything. I am really useless when it comes to computers! I don't really have any one with a computer that I can download the AV program from. I wish there was a way I could contact the Symantec Norton guys, but I can't find any technical hotline on their website. AAHHHHH!!!

I found what the virus is, its called "trojan horse backdoor.netdevil" Now, how do I get rid of it??? the AVG antivirus that MrKJblue reccommended detected the virus but was not able to remove the virus. Any ideas?
Thanks |

Island, the problem is that this virus does not allow me to run my Norton Antivirus program. When I start the scan, the Norton window dissapears shortly after. The funny thing is, I uninstalled the antivirus program, and my email started working again. I re-installed it, and everything was messed up again. This is sooo annoying!!!

BTDT - it's extra annoying when you spend $80 for the big Norton Antivirus program, only to have it waste a day or two of your time.
Specific virus fixes are what you need. The big Norton Antivirus program will be undermined by many viruses. Go to the Norton or McAffee websites to see what the big offenders are these days. I know "klez" was one floating around to a lot of pelican users; and in general. It also is one that will attack the big AV libraries. |
heres a link to another "help with virus thread"

Island, thank you very much. With your guidance, my computer has been healed. I am eternally gratefull.
Thanks! |
