The BBC had to react. Do you recall Jimmy Savile? They have a history of having some "great personalities" run the place and do what they want.

Personally, while I liked the show, I could care less. I am not a TV watcher and there is plenty of material archived on youtube etc. to watch occasionally.

TG should do an episode called: "Try to kill Clarkson!!!"

I look forward to new TG shows, this will truely suck.

legion 03-25-2015 08:53 AM

I agree, based on the facts, this had to happen.

That said, maybe after a season of sucky shows, BBC2 comes crawling back, Clarkson learns some humility and anger management.

This is not the first person Clarkson has punched, remember he did punch Piers Morgan.

It's because of the behavior that they, and apparently clarckson as well, can't control.

If that is the case, then why do they always bring up Clarkson's on-show antics when taking about his fracas with the producer? If this was his first show-related incident (not counting the Piers Morgan incident), then wouldn't a hefty fine and some anger management counseling been a better way to deal with this? Especially if the controversy Clarkson brought to the show was actually orchestrated?

Again, I don't condone violence, but Clarkson verbally laid into this guy for 20 minutes before throwing any punches. Not for nothing, but if someone's verbally tearing me a new one for any amount of time, I'm not going to hang around to hear more. The best way to dissolve a confrontation is to remove one's self from the confrontation, if at all possible. And for that matter, the same rule applies to Clarkson as well - he could have removed himself from the scene to simmer down and re-group.

And, as stated above, maybe this is a unique way for the show to end it's run in a typically Top Gear fashion. Now if that is the case, I stand up and applaud at all those involved...

I for one won't miss Clarkson. They should hire Tiff Needell to replace him. He can drive Clarkson off his rear bumper with ease and is just as funny and inoffensive. Fifth Gear would be a good replacement for Top Gear.

I always enjoyed James Mays take on events much more than Clarkson's.

onewhippedpuppy 03-25-2015 09:59 AM

Tiff is a great driver, but he's hokey and dull as a presenter. There's a reason why 5th Gear didn't make it.....

Good reaction from Hammond and May:

Top Gear Hosts James May And Richard Hammond React To Clarkson Firing

+1

CNN Money actually said that one of the possibile candidates to replace Clarckson is Piers Morgon.....that pretty much would can the show for me, I would never watch it again if Morgon moves into that spot.

Ever seen Clarkson when he joined the show?

onewhippedpuppy 03-25-2015 10:17 AM

The problem is that Tiff has been doing this equally as long, but he's still dull as ever.

doug_porsche 03-25-2015 10:24 AM

I applaud the BBC for taking a stand against violence in the workplace.

I am sad and disappointed that it was Clarkson and his (alleged) stupid/juvenile actions that shows; Clarkson is just as fired for hitting the producer as the producer would have been for hitting Clarkson.

I couldn't agree more! I love TGUK, but it seems to me that he made his own bed. I'm sure he doesn't need the money etc etc but going to work where the possibility of physical violence exists is ridiculous unless you are in the military or law enforcement. He deserves everything he got and then some.

black_falcon 03-25-2015 10:54 AM

From all reports I've heard, Clarkson "aimed" a punch but didn't actually hit the guy. Not saying that's OK but I think there's a lot of misinformation as to what really happened.

Clarkson is conservative for a European and goes quite verbally against the grain. The demise of Top Gear and Clarkson is exactly what the PC folks have been longing for.

scottmandue 03-25-2015 11:01 AM

Pfft... NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE JACK PARR!!!

Like Clarkson is the only acrid, counter culture, car guy, on the face of the planet.

I will bet you a dollar next year at this time he will be replaced and the beat will go on.

BBC news on satellite radio this morning spoke of contact and a busted lip / blood.

Funny?
Tiff is about as funny as a case of herpes. That dude could bore a sloth to tears.

Now that's funny right there!!

Tiff already had his shot at Top Gear, he was presenter when I was still a teen in the UK. I can't imagine they would ever want him back!

He was a great driver, but that's it!

I have those old episodes downloaded somewhere. Man, that was awful back then.
It's been a long time since I tried to watch an episode of Fifth Gear. Couldn't stand it. Unlike a needle, Tiff is not that sharp...

May is leaving
Hammond is leaving

lane912 03-25-2015 12:23 PM

hope May does another season of MAN LAB-

If this is the case, I'd say that still meets the definition of assault.

Iciclehead 03-25-2015 01:42 PM

I have sincere doubt that this was not much more than a shoving match...not good in any event, but I suspect it was more of douche-bag meets colossal prick, lots of arrogance and shouting...maybe a little booze thrown in and next thing you know one is pushing the other and everyone's panties are in a knot.

I mean, face it, if it would have been outright assault as in punch to the head with a fist or an object, believe me, there would have been charges filed by the police, this is the UK we are speaking of.

The fact that there are no charges in my mind proves that this was nothing more than a shoving match.

I am sure there are no non-compete's in force here as they sold their rights. As has been said here, if Netflix is clever, hire the three of them, make an uncensored version of Top Gear and blammo, BBC loses it biggest revenue stream.

Looks good on them....

Ummm, no. How many Top Gear spinoffs have there been? I think there were several rounds in Australia, the USA, and an Asian version. Not to mention 5th Gear which is very similar. All have been failures, because the magic of the show is in the chemistry between the presenters. It's not acting, it is genuine. That's something you can't craft for tv.

WPOZZZ 03-25-2015 01:50 PM

They should make TG Universe hosted by May, Hammond, Leno and Seinfeld.

lane912 03-25-2015 01:55 PM

please keep Leno and Seinfeld out-

American humor is on the downbeat, British is on the upbeat
you can not cross the streams-

Aragorn 03-25-2015 02:02 PM

I will agree that Top Gear UK was lightning in a bottle. Top Gear US is not a hit, but most of the recent episodes I have watched were decent to pretty good. Tanner Foust is a good driver and a watchable host. Ruttledge Wood may be a car guy, but can't stand him on the air. Adam seems to be there just to break stuff. Shows are relatively funny and easy to watch.

My first thought for a replacement for Clarkson was "Tiffany Dell" also, but I can see how some don't like his style.

Get Adam Carolla over there. Funny car guy and a good interviewer.

Regarding the incident, I believe May stated that they were all "blind drunk". Which explains a lot.

That is hilarious!

As good as those Downfall/Hitler memes.

onewhippedpuppy 03-25-2015 03:14 PM

Chris Harris did a great "eulogy" on Jalopnik that really captured it for me. Top Gear was a fun way that I could share my passion with non-car people and ultimately get them interested in my hobby. My wife loves Top Gear, and she's not into cars. I watch it with my kids and my 4-year old gets out his Hot Wheels and starts racing them. I love the show, but not having that vehicle to share my passion with my family is what makes me sad.

Better! That guys has the best laugh I've ever heard! Tears down my cheeks!

LEAKYSEALS951 03-25-2015 03:29 PM

Thanks for the link! I cried I laughed so hard.
1/2 way through it I did a double take and wondered if that was actually Clarkson himself dressed as the chef and it was all a ruse, but alas... it was not!:D

EDIT- S#$%! Give THIS guy clarkson's job. He's incredible! He could just go around and wreck cars and infectiously laugh about it. I'd watch!

That is a righteous comment.

Only Peter Morgan can rival Tiff as to the most boring dude that ever walked the planet.

I would rather the Sling Blade dude host the show.

Whatever happened to two guys duking it out a little and then getting over it? Me and I guy at work got into good one day in the lot...black eyes bloody mouths cut up hands etc...... After that its over, we work together still and all is good.:D
Don't fire the talent...they make the show...replace the guys on the other side of the camera and nobody would have known the difference.
That being said the last few years have not been as good as years past.

Grog 03-25-2015 04:29 PM

I hope the arrogant ass gets some jail time so he doesn't get rewarded with a lucrative contract in the US. Be an ass pay the price.

biosurfer1 03-25-2015 07:37 PM

more pussification of the world. co-workers get into a drunk spat and people get fired? If anyone wants to know why charges weren't filed it's because the producer did not file a complaint.

Clearly the BBC is using this just to get rid of Clarkson. Guys into a glorified shoving match because after a long day of shooting (14+ hours according to the producer) there was no hot food, but plenty of alcohol and the BBC decides to kill their cash cow??? There is NO WAY they weren't looking for a reason to cancel his contract, just sad he gave them the reason they were looking for.

This comment is right on! Agree 100%

So it's done... Don't get your hopes up Gents. I doubt Jeremy would ever relocate his family to the US.

He's got bags of money and a long list of options.
I wouldn't be surprised if he does something online or through Netflix like Seinfeld did with his Comedians and Coffee thing.

And whatever happened... It happened. We've all been there but most of us can control our tempers.
(Maybe Jeremy has issues with his blood sugar levels? That wouldn't be a first)

And yes the show isn't what it used to be. IMO It peaked around the time Schumacher was revealed as the Stig. (2009)
